    Rope bed, c. 1830.

    This style of bed had ropes instead of slats to support the mattress. The ropes were wound around pegs attached to the frame. (The edge of the frame was beveled and smoothed to avoid sawing into the rope.)

    You can see this piece in the Log House of the Ross County Heritage Center complex.
