The art direction in Rory deserves a big chef’s kiss. My intention for this piece was to show how destructive Ashfur was to those around him, even if it was more subtle at times. He is manipulating the environment by carving into the bark. I also had him directly stare at the viewer to evoke confrontation. His paw covers his mouth, making it harder to read his expression, leaving the viewer unsure of his complete reaction. We just see the doe-eyed look, as if he’s surprised the viewer caught him red-handed. I like the contradictory in the palette from the MAP and the scene - you have these warm, welcoming colors but the storytelling shows a different story. The creativity of how the canvas ratios complimented the story with such gorgeous animation quickly made this MAP one of my favorites.
