It had been a simple enough task; get out to one of the tunnels behind the Fens and check in on one of the generators supplying power to Diamond City-- the lights were malfunctioning again. Without any ghouls in town the task was left to Nick, about as immune to any radiation leaks as they were going to get.
At least he’d left Rosaline up at the manhole to help him out if he needed it as the old synth made his way down to address that generator and the wires leading out of it. It was a long, annoying task, and Rosie had kept him company at least by talking through that manhole and telling him stories of the Capital wasteland. But Nick had started to get a little quieter the further along he got.
It wasn’t until those yellow eyes flickered up at her through the dark, signaling that he was done with his job, that Nick’s voice stuttered. “A-alright, doll, help me up, would you? Tool... toolbox first.” He hefted it up for her, and then grabbed a hold of the ladder to make his way to the street.
He had a metal hand on the ground and the other in hers when Nick teetered, nearly falling back off the ladder before he instead got his elbows up on the pavement and lurched there for a moment. A sound came from him, sort of like a wheeze.
His hand was a little warm to the touch.
