So, I watched The War of the Rohirrim and I was very pleasantly surprised? It perfectly gave off the vibe of a Tolkien story. While it does have multiple LotR references, it certainly stands on its own. It was mostly hand-drawn too, and I genuinely enjoyed the visuals.
Despite what some reviews would have you think, there's nothing bland about it. It's a fun movie. In some ways, it's a great movie, even though there are parts of it that could've been done better. What I'm trying to say is — definitely give it a shot and you will NOT be disappointed.
The new tgcf artbook (the donghua art collection for the fourth anniversary) is called To Meet You in the Mortal Realm (世中逢尔), and not only does that sound absolutely lovely, but it's also from one chapter title in the novel – To Meet You in the Mortal Realm, To Find Flowers Beneath the Rain (世中逢尔雨中逢花; chapter 31 in vol. 3 of the Seven Seas version, and chapters 72 and 73 in the online novel).
And y'all!!! This is the flashback chapter with Hong Hong'er in the temple; the one with a white flower as an offering, and with "if you do not know the meaning of your life, then make me that meaning, and use me as your reason to live" <3
there is something so hauntingly beautiful about the passing of time in the narnia series. what do you mean you found your way into a realm of magic, grew up ruling it, led it into a golden age—and then were suddenly forced back to your younger self, an adult in a child's body? what do you mean you have to learn how to live with the yearning, the emptiness; the knowledge of magic and the painful realisation of having left it—having left it all—behind, by no true fault of your own? what do you mean you start anew, growing pains the second time around with a wealth of experience to bear them, and you try to forget (you could never forget)—but then you get pulled back. you get pulled back to the only place that could ever welcome you as you are; where magic is a caress and sunlight dances golden across the crowns of sentient trees. and then you learn that it has been years—one, a thousand—and you are looking at the ruins of what used to be your home, and who you used to be in it
