back to doing some requests, starting with one of my favourites

are we equirose or rosequius

either way they have very polite and involved political discussions

Hey....... how do you feel about...... rosquius? Do you see it working out? If so, in what quadrant?

I FUCKING LOVE ROSEQUIUS!!!!!!!!!!!!

So okay because I am a SUCKER for Equius I ship them in pretty much every quadrant so guess what nonnie you get to hear about ALL OF THEM.

Rose would be the auspisticise between Equius and someone else. Really just pick a person tbeh he’s bad at communication he could need auspisticizing with anyone if you think about it hard enough. Rose has shown canon interest in being the midleaf of a relationship, she’s curious and wants to date people, wants to try it, and she’s also enough of a no-nonsense bitch she’d stand tall (or stand short, as the case may be ;P) and put her foot down on his shenanigans. A “no you listen to me you absolute wreck” kinda exasperated fondness.

Pitch could be fun, given that they’re both absolute disasters. Rose is snarky and Equius doesn’t pick up on her subtlety so he’s just a blunt motherfucker back at her, falling back on being kinda snobbish bc he’s not too good when he doesn’t know someone well and he doesn’t have a script. Needling him would then become VERY entertaining to Rose, and at first he probably wouldn’t get why she’s got it so out for him and then someone would tell him “Equius she’s needling you because she hates you” “I know I don’t get it” “Equius… hate-hate” “OH.” Cue awkward bad flirting that Rose finds strangely irritating and endearing at the same time. Their “dates” are just them arguing over literally every single thing they can think of and bossing each other around. Rose pulls on his hair a lot and it’s hot as hell and he picks her five foot nothing self up like she weighs literally nothing and she hisses about the indignity while he scolds her. He probably picks her up by the scruff of her shirt when he’s feeling particularly salty and it INFURIATES her.

Flush is probably more based in he thinks she’s BRILLIANT and elegant and beautiful and stately at first, then learns she’s actually a walking disaster held together by caffeine packets and makeup and he just goes “oh no.” She’d probably think he’s curious, at first, quiet and reserved which just makes her want to figure out what makes him TICK and then it turns out he’s actually a giant weenie and also a walking disaster and she’s just like “oh no.” They try to be the “put-together” couple to the public eye, well dressed and stately and they go on fancy dinner dates where Equius holds the door open and pushes her seat in for her bc he thinks the world of her and she straightens his lapel and whispers conspiratorially in his ear but in actuality she’s just saying NASTY shit to rile him up bc Rose that is lewd and she just winks at him bc she knows he’s gonna be thinking about that all the way until they get home and then they GET HOME and Rose has never been a sub a day in her life and Equius only likes to pretend to be a dominant individual and they have a lot of fun in the bedroom is what I’m saying without getting TOO not safe for the workplace here on this blog o mine. When they have stay-at-home dates Equius orders a veggie pizza and Rose drinks soda straight out of the two liter and they fuss at each other but neither of them actually DOES anything. Also please picture Rose, in full on Drama Mode, sprawling across his workbench saying “I’m your project now.” and he just “hhrkk”s but then proceeds to scoop her up bridal style and they go make a pot of tea together and cuddle or smth.

Pale is nice because Equius is neurotic as hell and Rose needs someone to break her eye-contact with the thing that’s riling her up sometimes and tell her, entirely bluntly with no possibility of being passive-aggressive or condescending, to stop being a dumbass. Equius realizing Rose is a disaster and just being like “Nepeta we have to make this diamond a three-person thing” and the two of them just sorta looking at Rose and going “…you’re ours now. Welcome to the fold.” Equius picking Rose up and removing her from the thing that’s aggravating her and telling her firmly to shoosh and Nepeta curling up on top of her, effectively pinning her down but also showing physical affection and helping her unpack the things that upset her because if Nepeta can help Equius, of all people, work through his issues I’m pretty sure Nepeta can look at anyone else and go “Ha. You little baby. This is wrigglerplay.” Also Equius getting a chance to help out someone else would probably be very important to him, since Nepeta is usually (usually) the more emotionally balanced of the two of them and Rose so CLEARLY needs someone to help soothe her down. Rose helping Equius calm down when he’s mad or frustrated or confused is really nice too. The only downside to Rosequius pale is they’re both kinda bad at social cues. Rose is a lil better abt them but not good enough to really explain to Equius what he’s doing wrong or how.

Anyway Yeah I love Rosequius and I love Equius and I love Rose and they’re good and should defo be in love.

NepRose dated for a while before Nep decides to introduce Rose to her moirail!! Rose is a little weary of Equius at first because he's this lumbering with more muscle than the other guy trolls combined but she discovers Equius is really sweet and awkward. Equius just tags along neprose dates as a funsie and to make sure the girls dont get TOO wild. Rose kisses his cheek after dates, he doesn't get her unpredictableness half the time but he feels like he has two moirails now? That's nice

Rose♥️Nep, Rose♦️Eq, and Meowrails is a GOOD setup!!!!!! Equius trying to be a chaperone is an inordinately hilarious mental image though like. “Nepeta I love you but no” and Nepeta’s over here ready for her date with a hot girl and she’s like “Equius I love you but you literally cannot stop me.”

But he’s fun to have there in a weird way but that’s okay because everything about Equius is kinda weird but also kinda nice and Rose likes being around him. I also… really kinda like the idea of the two of them sparring? Like, Equius calms down when he engages with high-energy exercise, like fighting, and Rose is a punchy fucker if there ever was one, so the two of them can just burn off some of that frustration/anger/violent energy with each other and that’s real good for them.

Plus like… the two of them gushing over how incredible Nepeta is together? Like yeah, they love her in slightly different ways, for somewhat different reasons, but they can both very easily agree that Nepeta is adorable and deadly and just sorta like the greatest thing that’s ever happened to them.

And then Nepeta and Rose giggle together over what a lame weenie Equius is like. Look at him. He’s such a walking disaster. They love him. God he’s such a wreck.

And Meowrails are of course like the objectively best diamond in all of Homestuck and sometimes when they get together they’ll chat about how pretty and deadly and smart Rose is and wow she’s just so cool and interesting and ahhhhh what a good setup I’m love this idea

Talking about Lalonde/Zahaaks, what do you think of shipping Rose and Equius pitch, or vacilating between pitch and flush? I think pitch gives Equius a good opportunity to bring his intellect to bare against Rose, who is otherwise uncontested in her teasing.

Hmm, I think I’m more inclined to ship them pure flush, or with only very occasional pitch vacillations. They both have a nice intellect going on, but I think I tend towards shipping Equius pitch with people who poke holes in his sense of propriety, and Rose pitch with people who poke holes in her dignity. Not to say that Equius can’t be improper, or Rose can’t be silly, or anything like that! But I think they both place a lot of value on presenting themselves in a proper (/dignified) way, that’s their comfort zone and THEY want to be in control of when they break that character.

So in terms of how I write blackrom, their personalities are pointed in a pretty similar direction, which makes it hard to put them at odds with each other! And their personal desires line up really prettily too, Rose very much likes being in control of a situation and Equius has a massive need to be made to submit. Even on a cultural level, those desires match up, because I’m pretty sure Equius will fixate nicely on her ‘color’ being purple, especially since she has the bearing of a proper highblood.

Haha, I’m sorry, this is coming out all disjointed, I’m working it out as I type. I think what I’m trying to say is that it would be an interesting intellectual matchup, but I don’t see many ways that they’ll clash and get the pitch sparks flying. I tend to ship Equius pitch with people like Sollux, who are like fuck you and fuck your societal standards, or with (sober/nice) Gamzee, who just won’t even process that this ‘proper highblood behavior’ is even a THING. Equius has a lot of anger in him and he’s a very demanding person, so I need that person who refuses to agree with where he’s coming from, and then isn’t intimidated by that Zahhak anger/strength combo, maybe even thinks it’s funny to poke him more and more to get him all offended. (and less often, but this gets me like WHOA, since he has this massive need to submit I also ship him pitch super hard with anyone who refuses to take on ANY kind of dommy role at all, though that condition is more dependent on any story itself and how it’s written). I don’t see him and Rose clashing on that front much, because she loves getting in people’s heads and dissecting their thought processes, and even playing along with something to see how people react, and I like Equius pitch better when his partner does the opposite of that.

So for Rose on the other hand, I don’t ship her pitch as often, because without that cultural background for blackrom, it’s harder to justify humans in those relationships (fun, but harder). I do really enjoy shipping her pitch with Nepeta (especially in conjunction with flushed equirose, that’s how I wrote ‘in our own true way,’) because Nepeta is so determinedly SILLY. Rose’s default presentation to the world is cool, reserved, and dignified, and Nepeta likes poking holes in people’s dignity when she can. I can really see the sparks flying there, because Nepeta really values being as genuinely silly all the time as she could ever want, and I think it would irritate her to see Rose putting up that front. And it would irritate Rose to have Nepeta doing her Nepeta thing when Rose is trying to ACCOMPLISH THINGS, CAN YOU NOT. They can both see where the other is coming from, they understand what they’re trying to do, but their priorities are different in a few key ways and why won’t she just agree that I’M THE ONE WHO’S RIGHT.

I have an easier time explaining ships I’m into than ships I’m not into :P And I was working that out as I went. But I don’t really see Equius and Rose clashing enough for full-up blackrom, and even for occasional flips, I feel like it would be driven by external factors more than just their personal interactions. On a personal level, I see them clicking really cleanly, and the only other quadrant I personally enjoy for them is Rose middle-leafing for Equius and someone else. Which is rare! I don’t know if I’ve ever actually seen any, but it’s something I could get behind.
