Happy Easter to all who celebrate! To others, yay Easter break!! *does happy dance* I am currently being lazy at home and hiding from the grey sky. As someone who is solar-powered I wish the weekend was as good as the one before, when I took these pictures. It was a glorious warm and sunny day and I was so happy to be able to wear this outfit! This Western-themed John Wolf skirt is just too adorable to pass despiter some fade on the print and it looks super sweet with my new Miss L Fire sandals. I have dwelled into the 1930s/1940s a lot lately but my first love will always be the 1950s and this outfit is an obvious proof. Growing up in Asia, the Western culture has always fascinated me. My parents introduced us to the concept pretty early on. My first overseas trip was a two-weeks Europe trip when I was 6 (my parents won some travel agency competition) and my mother frantically taught us how to use forks and knives, told us not to wander too far away in foreign country ("If you ever get lost, find a police in uniform"), and also told us to absorb as much English as possible by allowing us to watch Disney Channel and Nickelodeon as much as possible. The Western culture always seemed so advanced, and my parents wanted us to learn it and take the best of it to combine with the best of our own culture. I have always enjoyed learning history and culture, but one concept that I never quite get is the Old West. It is just far too foreign for me! The handsome Yul Brynner isn't quite enough for me, the third Back to the Future is my least favourite, and really the fashion isn't that exciting.
In the past few years, however, I find myself enjoying Western genre a little bit more. It might have started with Quentin Tarantino's Django Unchained, which I admit is not a typical Western movie. But then I couldn't quite relate with a typical Western flick so you gotta excuse me there. I also like The Hateful Eight and Westworld the TV series. Again, both of them aren't stereotypically Western but they might be as close as I will ever get to enjoying them. I feel like I've overexplained this, but hey I want to justify my love for this novelty skirt. Not that I really have to, this skirt is as adorable as it gets! It's a John Wolf fabric and my second piece from the same designer.It also comes in a different colour scheme and since I'm a sucker for vintage twins I am itching to find the green one to add to my collection. I wanted the skirt and my new Miss L Fire sandals to be the highlight of this outfit so I kept it quite simple with a Trashy Diva top and wore no accessories up top. In this skirt we see cowboy boots, hats, saddles and bandanas - I'm not sure I'll ever wear all those together with the skirt (a bit too much?) but maybe one day Westword theme park will become a reality and I will visit it wearing this skirt. Wouldn't that be fun? Well, without the faulty hosts of course.
We shot this outfit when I was visiting St Albans, this lovely Roman town outside London, and it was a glorious day to walk around the Cathedral and soak up some sun. I was also excited to finally wear my new sandals - I recently saw them at the launch party in Revival Retro and realised that I didn't actually own any dressy sandals for summer. Obviously I was happy to fix that predicament and took home these gorgeous red sandals. They are lace up sandals and surprisingly really comfortable. I sized down with this pair (36 instead of 37) and they fit my wide feet comfortably! The laces end up flower accents instead of simple aglet and these make the sandals a lot more dressed up than an average lace up pair. The sandals are sueded so they don't rub against my feet. The details are all there, but Miss L Fire topped it with clear plastic heels and light padding for your feet's balls and heels. I found them ridiculously comfortable (can't wait to take them out for a Roman holiday!!) and I discovered they come in more colours so now they are a big threat to my bank account. I totally recommend them for your summer wardrobe - they look mighty adorable with novelty skirts and summer dresses and they're probably the only new pair of shoes you need this summer! Controversial statement I know!
