Why do Roshon and Fleur avoid confronting their feelings for each other? 👀

To preface, Fleur belongs to my fiancé @theriversarebroken and we developed these two's relationship in her story, The Covenant That Fell. So speaking from that:

- In Covenant, Fleur is on a mission to rescue her sister. They both are constantly reincarnated when they die and Fleur has been searching for her for centuries. She's involved in some Serious Magical Shit and, in this life, is completely alone in her search.

- She eventually hires Roshon, a drifting sellsword, as a 'body guard' that she doesn't actually need. But Roshon does end up helping Fleur take better care of herself and does become a genuine companion despite Fleur not initially wanting to care about her at all.

- When they meet, both of them are in a place where they are determined to not care about other people or let other people get close. Fleur is too dedicated to her mission and Roshon has been burned too many times and thinks the best thing she can do for other people is die for them (another story)

- Roshon is softer than Fleur and falls first, but she refuses to distract Fleur from her mission. But her feelings keep poking out more and more and it becomes very difficult for her to hide them, so she stops bothering with hiding her affection- she just doesn't say anything. And Fleur is like yeah this is what best friends do!

- Fleur comes to the feelings revelation much later, and it's even a slow build for her to realize how special Roshon is to her because she's so focused on what she's doing. But when she does finally realize her feelings she absolutely refuses to let them distract her and Then when she decides to let herself have this, Bad happens and they're separated for a time.

- This all takes place over like 10 years. All of their friends can see it and are like ???? Because before they admit their feelings to each other they already act like they've been married forever. Like that picture up there? They just sleep like that. They're totally just friends, totally. But it is one of my favorite things of like, learning to care more about yourself because you have this special person that would be absolutely devastated if you died. This person is the other half of your soul!

In Ghosttowns it's a vaguely similar situation, Fleur and her sister have been separated for many years and her sister starts pulling Fleur towards her with her Theric powers. Fleur hires Roshon, a licensed bounty hunter, to help her find Helene. They are both uuuuh. Difficult. And stubborn. And still pine after one another for way longer than they realize they have very serious feelings for one another.

Thinking about these besties again. Two big gals that accidentally encourage each other's most toxic traits of self-sacrifice and self-denial, oops!

Roshon Brightrun in her Bleach AU form! I developed her after I was kind of out of the bleach community but I always wonder how she would've been received then.

Anyway she's the Lieutenant of the 10th division and her Zanpakuto's name is Günaydin (The Sun has Shone). It gives her some sensory manipulation abilities that can bolster her allies and is kind of a gamble against enemies. She doesn't have to rely on her powers too much, though, she's a great swordsman and her sword is like 9 feet long (and she swings it with the ease and precision of a kitchen knife)

[PAGE] What is a new skill that they would like to develop, or that they believe would help them achieve a specific goal?

Roshon is a woman of many useful but underappreciated skills- a lot of textile arts like sewing and knitting, tea making, cooking. There is one area that she's poorly versed in despite her lifestyle, and that's healing, first-aid, she doesn't have any sort of anatomical know-how and she knows it would be very useful for herself and especially for her partner. She does try to start learning from Fleur, but it's probably a little rocky at first until they get to know each other.

[THREE] Do they prefer working in teams? If so, what role do they take (e.g., leader, mediator, the brains, etc.)?

For her actual job of bounty hunting/mercenary work, Roshon really tries to avoid teams. There's a couple people she doesn't mind being on jobs with (mostly Jo and Carmen), but if she's escorting a client or chasing people around, she prefers to only be responsible for herself and her clients. That being said, Roshon enjoys company for other things, but it's more of a preference for parallel work and hanging out over working together together.

[SEVEN, REVERSED] What is something, if anything, that easily distracts them from the task at hand? Is it a specific person? A train of thought? Something environmental?

Generally Roshon is a pretty focused person, especially on the job, but she's prone to losing herself in thought when she's travelling or off-duty. She has a tendency to be very hard on herself and often loses herself to these like, 'I'm not good enough' lonely little spirals (Roshon is kind of... subtly depressed for a long time). It continues when she's travelling with Fleur while they get to know each other (in Covenant, at least) Roshon finds out Fleur is perfectly capable of handling herself in a fight (in fact, she and her enemies are leagues beyond Roshon's abilities) and mostly hired Roshon to be like, her travelling companion. It very seriously bums Roshon out for a while. Above I mentioned Roshon has a lot of useful but undervalued skills? Yeah, she tends to do a lot of the undervaluing. She's put a lot of stock in her fighting ability and can't see the good brought by the other parts of herself, so that's why she's prone to these little depression spirals.

[TEN, REVERSED] How do they define legacy? What do they believe is substantial/worth fighting for?

Roshon has a complicated relationship with legacy- her mom died saving people from a natural disaster when Roshon was 8, and quickly after that their caravan was attacked and Roshon received some pretty severe head trauma from the event (the scar across her face was a close call of having her head sliced right in half). All throughout her childhood, people commented on her mom, praised her, said she was so brave for what she did, and between both traumas Roshon twisted that into everyone expecting her to become her mom, and that the best, most honorable thing you can do for people is sacrifice your life for them. Roshon believes that your family and loved ones are worth fighting for, and as she ages she distances herself from others and tries to not form close bonds because she has this deep ingrained belief that it's selfish that she doesn't want to die like her mom did. Eventually, travelling with Fleur and peeling herself open again, coming into protecting a kid long-term, and reuniting with Jo who she thought was dead, Roshon sloooowly gains a healthier understanding of her relationship to... relationships. The people she loves and the things they love are worth fighting for, and included in that, Roshon herself is worth fighting for, too.

Fighting style thoughts under here 👀

Jo recognizes that the amount of injuries she sustains in battle is a weakness, a deficit in her fighting style. She takes hits to end battles faster, to minimize casualties except for herself. She takes hits meant for others, but because she doesn't focus on defense the hits get to her actual body and not her weapons.

She's made up for this lack of defense by training her endurance to ridiculous heights, she can take punishment like no one's business and shake it off seemingly like nothing. But she also trains to overcome that instinctual part of herself to make sacrifices to pain- it's always counterintuitive and never sticks. She takes the most physical punishment out of most of the people she's fought alongside and she knows it's not sustainable- just because she can swallow the pain doesn't mean it's not exhausting.

And Jo's closest fighting counterparts highlight those weaknesses even more:

Her greatest swordsmanship "rival", Roshon, is a considerably better warrior in this aspect. Roshon is also a highly offensive fighter but her style incorporates graceful dodges and utilizes her large blade as much as a shield as a weapon. Roshon is just as protective as Jo in a fight, but she knows how to protect herself along with those she fights with or for.

And her sister is a defensive fighter- a unique combination of shield and pugilist fighting, Rae nearly has the endurance of Jo with the defensive skill that makes her more formidable. Sure, Rae's fights often drag out far longer, but there is a reason most of Rae's scars are either self-inflicted or were from incidents that she had tried to avoid fighting back. And while she'll never admit this, she's trained in part to fight alongside Jo and maybe, maybe, make up for Jo's weaknesses.

Roshon Brightrun is a notable bounty hunter, distinct in appearance and in her choice of weapon. As a master of Tusk-style swordplay, Roshon's blade is a massive yet elegant weapon that is just as tall as it's 6'5" owner.

Roshon herself is known to be friendly but detached and difficult to get close to. Some people say she seems often like she's just coasting through this life, like there's no point in getting too attached to anyone when working so closely to death.
