Roslin Thorne is the second child, and second daughter, to the former Lord and Lady Thorne. Roslin has an older twin, Romana, and many younger brothers. House Thorne rules a small holdfast on the outskirts of the Crownlands, and don’t have much glory as a noble house. Roslin left home with her mother when she was young to join the ladies at court and possibly gain more knowledge and honor for her house. Her mother has even been trying to set her up as a possible marriage option for any of the Targaryens, to which Roslin and Romana, were turned down for all of them. Her mother died when the twins were eighteen, leaving Roslin and and Romana alone in King’s Landing.
Unlike her sister, Roslin was lost at court. She just didn’t have the personality for it. When the other Targaryens arrived, Roslin was given the option to leave for home or to go into service for House Targaryen. She decided to stay and became a handmaiden for Daenerys Targaryen. Roslin acts more like a big sister to Dany then a handmaiden. While she does the normal duties that a handmaiden would do, she’s become quite close to Dany and worries for her constantly.
While in the capital, the rift between Roslin and Romana seemed to widen The sisters barely even see each other anymore, when they do, they fight almost constantly. Roslin was the last person to see her father alive, as when they attended the Black Wedding, Ser Dorian Thorne was killed.
Roslin stayed at Daenerys’s side during the war though, going with her to Winterfell and being by her side at her wedding. Roslin obediently followed her princess still to Harrenhal after Daenerys was awarded the keep, remaining her handmaiden as well as unofficial nanny to Daenerys’ children, and it was there she met the first man to ever give her more than a second look.
His name was Marcus, and he introduced himself as a ‘bandit prince’, though he was actually a hedge knight helping with the bandit infestation that occurred in the wet spring following the harsh winter. Ros fell for him hard and fast, and he felt the same for her. She could already see their life together, so hopeful and happy she was, with a small wedding and a bundle of children. Even after he revealed himself as the lost second son to Lord and Lady Oakheart, banished for loving a Dornish woman, Roslin still loved him. Marcus revealed that his family would not take him back and, thinking she deserved better, left her. Roslin was devastated. She wept for weeks and lost hope in ever marrying or having the family she longed for so desperately.
