Cyrano closes his eyes- only half embarrassed- as Roxanne's soft fingers trace around the bandage wrapped around the last three fingers of his left hand. Opening his eyes, he asks, "Would you believe me if I told you I didn't start it this time?"

                ˜”*°•.     Nothing  would  hurt  him   there .  It  was difficult  to  believe it ,  difficult  to trust  the  words .  He’d woken  up  to  almost  screaming , sweat  going  down his  skin .  The  feeling  of those  monsters’  hands , one  he  couldn’t  do away  with .  The  nightmare of  them  taking him  away  again , the  judge  looking at  him  with  such  amusement , such  pleasure …  he’d wanted  to  scream , to  shout .  Yet , he’d  been  once again  helpless ,  hopeless ,  incapable of  fighting .  Once again  grabbed ,  forced away  from  his  wife and  daughter ;  once again  reminded  of his  weaknesses,  of  his failure to  keep  them safe .    

             His  eyes  meet hers  ,  just  briefly -  his gaze  then  averted . He  can’t  look at  her ,  can’t  really face  her .  Not while  looking  like this ,  not  while barely  getting  a hold  of  himself . It  was  not her  duty  to keep  him  sane , after  all ,  not her  responsibility ;  and definitely  not  when her  own  demons were  hostile  enough already .  ❝ I  just -  For a  moment ,  I  feared you  were  gone . ❞  He  says softly -  voice   barely  audible , a  whisper .

        oh, how she wished she understood, even a little.   people liked to tell her that she was ‘born good,’ that nothing could ever place feelings of resentment or hatred in her heart.  but after all she’s gone through, sonya thought she might have benefitted from allowing herself to be feel that strongly.  she should have been angry at countess rostova for constantly looking down on her when she has been nothing but kind, or at nikolai and even natasha for having forgotten all about her in their happiness.  sonya should have been angry about a lot of things in her life.

but she merely says,  “i don’t believe i do.  i find it much too taxing to be angered to that extent.”  then sonya can only shrug in that one-shouldered way she does, a resigned smile on her lips.  if anything, she supposed she was terrified by her inability to feel anger the way everyone else must have.

The middle Archeron daughter was a lovely sight to be seen, as she flitted about the ballroom. She noticed a lovely young woman standing to the side, watching the dancers, and approached.

eleanora  beaufort,  middle  name  annabel  or  annabelle  (  the  sources  she's  checked  have  conflicting  information  ).  occasionally  referred  to  as  ella  or  ellie,  but  these  seem  to  be  nicknames.  born  in  1856  and  perished  at  the  age  of  19.  sienna  is  19  now.  she's  just  finished  her  undergrad  and  she's  about  to  begin  medical  school.  with  a  month  to  spare  before  turning  herself  in  for  her  medical-school  sentence,  she's  on  a  mission  to  meet  eleanora  in  person  (  or  as  close  to  in  person  as  you  can  get  when  you're  meeting  a  ghost  ).  she  asked  her  brother  to  come  with  her,  but  he's  visiting  his  birth  mother  for  the  summer,  so  he's  occupied.  that's  fine.  sienna  isn't  scared  to  go  alone.  and  so  she  did.  

she  stands  outside  the  mansion.  it's  lovely,  even  if  it  brings  back  memories.  she  feels  the  familiar  sensation  of  being  watched.  from  every  direction.  from  everywhere.  they  never  stop  watching!  the  air  feels  denser,  the  temperature  is  cooler,  and  the  atmosphere  is  ringing  with  power.  sienna  takes  a  steady  breaths,  but  even  those  feel  heavy.  

then  she  catches  a  glimpse  of  her.  she's  in  that  dress  that  sienna  has  dozens  of  pictures  of  tucked  away  into  her  backpack.  sienna  can  feel  decay,  but  she  can  also  feel  magic.  

          ❛  hello.  ❜  there  is  no  handbook  for  greeting  ghosts.  when  sienna  met  her  ex-girlfriend  (  nora,  who  happened  to  be  a  ghost  ),  it  was  because  nora  initiated  the  interaction.  that's  okay  —  sienna  can  do  this.  ❛  are  you  eleanora?  it's  nice  to  meet  you.  i  hope  i'm  not,  uh,  disturbing  you.  ❜  

some  ghosts  can  get  so  pissy,  and  sienna  is  trying  to  avoid  death.  she  is  usually  trying  to  avoid  dying,  but  she  is  especially  trying  to  avoid  dying  today,  so  she  hopes  eleanora  is,  like,  a  chill  ghost.

tortuga was as lively as ever. Elizabeth couldn’t help the subtle grin that touched her lips as she walked the ale soaked streets. Music and off-key singing filled the air, grating against her ear drums. Hopefully that tavern she planned to visit wouldn’t be as...active. But asking a pirate not to drink was like asking the sun not to shine.

Finding a corner near the back, eyes on the door, Elizabeth waited for her contact. A woman by the name of Catherine. The Pirate King had not met her before, but she was curious as to why she’d been summon for an audience.

Sipping from her tankard, allowing herself one drink, Elizabeth kept an eye for the blond woman. What did she wish to discuss?

He’d  thought  that coming  closer  to her  would  have soothed  this  anger . He’d  thought  that this  little  business would  be  over the  moment  at least  ONE  of them  returned  .  He’d  thought that  everything  was under  control .   And  yet ,  they  had not .  No.  This mania  had  grown stronger  and  stronger day  after  day ; and   he  knew , oh  he  knew so  well  that  continuing  like this  was  dangerous ; risky .  And  yet ,  he  couldn’t bring  himself  to care.  It  didn’t  matter . None  of  it mattered .

The  voice caught  his  attention ; fingers  gripping  on the  razor  a little  bit  too tightly ,  too  violently . ❝ Not  do what ,  darling ? ❞  Voice  so  calm , so  collected ;  smile  sweet ,  yet curiosity  making  its appearance  as  he glanced  at  her ;  the  man sitting  on  the chair ,  looking  just as  confused .
