Sansa is a rosy finch, I wanted a bird that had some red in it and chose the rosy finch because it is a cold-climate bird that is currently being threatened by rising temperatures, just like how Sansa is threatened by the southern politics. I almost chose a dove just because of ll of the mentions of Sansa and doves in the books but decided against it.

the gray-crowned rosy finch is a small passerine bird found through alaska, canada, and the northwestern united states. these birds are rarely seen, as they prefer habitat rarely accessed by humans; they are almost entirely found in tundra & elevated mountain environments. it is believed they may breed at a higher elevation than any other north american bird. they are seed eaters, with a preference for thistle. females are more drab in coloration than adult males, and resemble the juveniles of the species.
