Rotary Club La Valette supports organ donation counselling
Organ donation counselling is an emotive and highly sensitive moment for all involved.
It is when relatives of the recently deceased are asked to consider donating the organs of their loved one to help save, or benefit, someone else's life. Rotary Club La Valette decided to actively support organ donation counselling by funding and setting up two special rooms at Mater Dei hospital.
One room would be specially set up to be more conducive to this process, where relatives might be able to feel a little more comfortable and relaxed, and be detached from clinical environment of the Intensive Care Unit.
The room, inspired by an idea of Rotary Club Bari Castello, is called the Rotary Room.
The second room is set up to offer overnight accommodation to those relatives who might need it at this most difficult of time. This room is called The Drew Room, in commemoration of the life of Andrew Abela, whose organs were most generously donated by his parents (view). This project was greatly assisted by funds made available by our club member Mr Frédéric Villa through Integritas Ltd.
The inauguration took place, today, Tuesday 7th August 2018, at Mater Dei Hospital.
Rotary Club La Valette was represented by the President, Mr Brian Gibbs, the Past president Mr Bryan Sullivan and other Club members.
