Overall Evaluation
Within this rotation period, I have done a lot of things; sculpture, prints, fashion video etc and I liked more rotations then others. My least favourite was 3D, I feel like I don’t express my self that and I didn’t always enjoy the tasks since making sculptures just isn’t my kind of thing.
Fine Art was surprising and I enjoyed a lot more then I initially thought. I thought I would have to draw (we did draw on day 1 but I was sick for Monday and Tuesday) but we did a variety of things which didn’t involve drawing and I enjoyed all of them.
Next, we had Fashion and Textiles which I knew I would enjoy because I am interested in fashion media. And I did enjoy fashion especially the fashion video we created at the end. Although, I am interested in fashion, I won’t be doing it because I am interested in the media side of it.
My last rotation was Visual Communication and I did miss quite a few of the days but the week I was there, I enjoyed the tasks given. Some of it were tasks I hadn’t really covered like the accidental alphabet before so it was a new experience.
We did Moving image and Photography throughout the rotations since we didn’t have time to do a whole rotation of it. At the start of these rotations, I already knew I was going into MIP because I want to go into fashion media.
At the start of the rotations, I wasn’t sure what went in my blog and what went in my journal so I put everything in both of them. Throughout the rotations, I learnt I am more comfortable on my blog so I progressed to mostly putting my work on my blog. Any analogue work went in my journal and that decrease the page used in each rotation a lot. I’m not sure if I should’ve put more in my journal. A lot of the times I forgot to screenshot my progress so I hoped my thoughts and process of the work came across in the posts.
Evaluation
Visual Communication was my last rotation and I was excited to see what kind of work we would do. My strongest work was my collages mainly the typography, illustration and personalised one. Being able to use recognisable elements made it easier for me and I felt more at ease when making them. Personalised one was my favourite because I was able to include things about me.
My weakest work was my accidental alphabet because I wasn’t able to get all the letters and some letters were entirely clear. As well, I felt I could be more creative with it; maybe having a theme within the photos or the way I laid the photos out.
Some unexpected outcomes in this rotation were probably my collages. A lot of them I struggled with at first and had to leave them overnight because I couldn’t think any ideas. However, I liked most of the results of my collages and complete them with the criteria.
24/10/17-For our second task for today, we had to create a collage of photos, 3x3, which either show the same thing or have a similar colour scheme. We inspired by Edward Fella whom used a Polaroid to create his. It would’ve been cool to use a polaroid because of the effect it creates but film is expensive and so I decided to just use a normal camera. However, I like this idea because even if he is only taking photos of restaurant signs and it’s a way of showing where he’s travelled. Also, I like the whole aesthetic it creates.
For my one, I did it while I was on a trip to Singapore. Lots of the places I visited were very green so I decided to use green as my theme. At first I was thinking of doing street signs but the street signs are high so it’s hard to get a good photo of them. For three of my photos the frame is full of plants because I visited Gardens by the Bay- an area of green spaces featuring two domes which are home to Cloud Forest and Flower Dome, as well as the super tree groves. A good thing about green is that most green go well together and so I wasn’t worried about clashes.
When making the collages and I didn’t know whether to use a black or white background but at the moment the black version is my favourite. This is because the sky is featured in some of the photos and so it blended with the white background instead of each photo looking like individual photos.
