For Des: why is Leo's head on fire

Okay okay so

It's a congenital anomaly when he got mutated.

The flames itself is mystic related, it doesn't harm Leo, it provides him with immunity to heat. Though there are drawbacks of this as it does heighten his emotions, it's especially evident when he was a little tot.

Even now that he's grown into his teenage years, he still snaps sometimes though he feels very guilty for it. This often leads up to him isolating himself from his family to have some alone time with his thoughts. [Rooftops, talking to the moon, or the ocean calms him]

Also ! His flames do show his emotions quite clearly. It reacts to his emotions, the stronger he feels towards something whether positive or negative, the flames burn brighter [Blue flames are an exception]. To add to that, the flames also change colors depending on his mood, as you can see through the very few doodles of him I've posted on here. He has different colored flames. [I might make an indepth doodle explaining how his flames work. Soon methinks]

Mainly thinking about a TMNT iteration of 2024 boys mixed with the 2018 boys,,

Splinter, in his age, is pretty protective of the boys - he knows they're experiments, but he's lied to them their whole lives and said they were yōkai: just a different breed of kappa. They believe it, thankfully (for now).

Raph is the oldest, and the quickest to run into trouble even with his size: it's something he doesn't take into account and has lead to more injuries than not. He isn't leader, but often wishes he could be, and it's a point of tension.

Leo is the second oldest and the leader, awkward in his position and in general: he's a dweeb with a need to overcompensate via bad jokes and over-the-top fighting, alongside a need to have a cocky attitude to mask how awkward he is. It doesn't help his older brother doubts his abilities as leader.

Donnie is the third oldest, twin to Leo and an open nerd alongside being a serious gamer - think one of the League of Legends finalists, lost to an aimbot and he WILL NOT let go of that. Sticky fingers galore and has made a set of gloves to mimic 2 extra fingers when going to stores.

Mikey is the youngest, and is both a music and visual artist, and makes clothes for all of the family. Alongside that he cooks, and is the resident therapist who.. quite frankly scares the hell out of everyone when he snaps, though it's rare.

April O'Neil is a paranormal investigator and journalist who comes across the lair one day after getting trapped under the manhole, and with it meeting Splinter and all of the boys. To say she fainted was an understatement.

Baron Draxum is a lab-made yokai, thought to be naturally empyrean-born. A yokai of high regard, many of his inventions have proved useful to the Hidden City and the protection of it. Bishop is his creator, though he isn't aware of this.

donatello, or di as she is called, is the oldest- they also are agender and use she/her and they/them + feminine and androgynous terms

we've got six whole siblings (the main four + two oc siblings i've created bc why the fuck not), di (the oldest), leonardo/leon (second-oldest), michelangelo/angie (third-oldest, twins w/ livia), lavinia/livia (fourth-oldest, twins w/ angie), artemisia/aria (second-youngest, twins w/ rafi), raphael/rafi (youngest, twins w/ aria)

yes i did fuck with all their nicknames, not a single one of them is cis (not. a. single. one) and they're all very neurodivergent (probs collectively audhd bc i'm audhd)

they each have an associated flower: di -> belladonna, leon -> delphinium, angie -> lantana, livia -> chrysanthemum, aria -> jasmine, rafi -> verbena

so do the humans, + my mutant oc (explanation for emayi here, even tho parts of the post are outdated, btw i am still doing this ask game, feel free to ask questions): vale -> heliotrope, cassandra/cassie (og casey jones) -> poppy/scarlet poppy, april o'neil/aphaea -> arborvitae, casey jones jr/cj (future boy) -> hawthorne

vale (or ila valen "vale" klymene boraeis, yes their name is a mouthful, it's not really used, i just like full names (it also follows a naming scheme for my turtles + vale)) is a mutant cat chimaera (more specifically, they are predominantly a leopard cat mutant, but there's still more there) & di's romantic life partner & the same age as di

so my turtles + vale were mutated purposefully (though the mutation changed thru generations, with di & vale being in the first group, leon in the second, and so on) and descended from full-on war weapon (group I (di & vale's group)) to children + war weapons (group II (leon's group) and group III (angie and livia's group)), to children + warriors (as opposed to war weapons) (group IV (aria & rafi's group))

since this is heavily RoTMNT inspired (basically the only canon iteration i used as a base, soo it's less a TMNT fan iteration and more a RotTMNT fan iteration), baron draxum (but she's trans) is still the one mutating the turtles but she also mutated di & vale and then realised she had children now sooo

this is also heavily inspired by Eschatology so there's gonna be lots of lore surrounding the whole. fucking. The Turtles are Weapons of War Thing™ so. yeah. (edit: i am aware Eschatology is a crossover w/ mha. it's still the best exploration into The Turtles are Weapons of War Thing™ that i've read)

there is technically a big mama here but she's known as the lady of flowers and there is also technically a battle nexus but it's called the flowering colossuem

the hamato clan is Fucked Up™ here (full disclosure: it's basically a cult. that sponsors martyrdom & sacrifice as a lifestyle) and so is hamato yoshi, who became an actor to get away but also Did Not deal with any of his problems and eventually was pretty fucked up with his children (look. this splinter is a shit parent. he did not mean to be a shit parent. but he also raised his kids by hamato clan standards and those are Cult Standards.)

on the other hand: di & co. do get decent parental figures (draxum (who's now apparently transfem??? ig so), before splinter (with good intentions) stole them) (also anthea/the lady of flowers, she's an awesome mother figure, who's a bit violent but that's just. emayi culture. emayi are very hard to kill. they are halfway to immortal. they have to deal with their history of violence somehow and that somehow is controlled and regulated violence that does not incur lasting trauma)

fun fact: the groups i mentioned did not only include the characters that will appear, at least one mutant in each group did not survive the mutation (until the mutations began happening en masse in volume i, it was pretty common for mutants to not survive the process) (to clarify, there were five beings in group I, three in group II, four in group III, and three in group IV)

also: magick is (more, though still semi-hidden) commonplace in this universe, but emayi are not

also: age gaps!! di & vale are three years older than cassie, four years older than aphaea, eight years older than leon, ten years older than angie & livia, and eleven years older than aria & rafi (they are both 21 in volume i. no i do not care that this means they are no longer 'teenage' mutant ninja turtles. i do what i want)

7) yes there are aliens, the kra'ang do exist here (and, as this is heavily rise influenced, they are more like rottmnt's krang than any other canon iteration) and they are important to the lore, other aliens do not, or, at least, will not have an characters actually appearing within the story

8) emayi exist. they are like yokai in rottmnt and have a whole backstory- they were changed from the remnants of the ashimoto clan (minus a sect that were not) into what they are today, tho they also just. existed naturally (who changed them, i don't know yet. i've been systematically removing the unending weave. from my works for a while now and the gardens project. is just one of the last to fully catch-up-
