The Hogwarts AU
Ok, so in my mind, Lockwood and co takes place in the early 2000s, therefore I’m putting Hogwarts age in 1997/8, the last year of the second war.
Anthony Lockwood: Lockwood is a pureblood, whose parents worked in the Department of Mysteries and were killed in an experiment with the veil of death. His sister, Jessica, was part of Dumbledore’s Army and got killed by a cursed object in the mail, possibly sent by Death Eaters. After that, Lockwood went to live with an uncle of his, ‘Gravedigger’ Skyes, who taught him a few spells and the basics of duelling. Come 1997 and seeing the state of the wizarding world, Skyes refused to send Lockwood to Hogwarts and took over his education until the war was over.
Lucy Carlyle: As the seventh daughter in a family of muggles living in Scotland, Lucy knew nothing about magic until Death Eaters started raiding her home village. Her friends were killed in such a raid, creating a life-long hate against dark wizardfolk. Lucy doesn’t go to Hogwarts until after the war, despite being now a year older than the average first year. Against her family’s wishes, her curiosity drives her to accept her Hogwarts letter and travel to London for the train.
George Cubbins: Son to a muggle librarian and a potioneer, George is a halfblood who knows his way around the wizarding world. He met Lockwood at an annual dueling competition in which a 10-year-old Lockwood roundly kicks Mr Kipps’ ass despite not yet being Hogwarts age. A long-standing friendship is formed and the chaotic situation of the wizarding world manages to convince his parents to be educated with Lockwood in academic subjects instead of sending him off to Hogwarts.
Holly Munro: Though Holly’s mother is a squib, her grandfather is from an influential branch of the Rottwell family, owner of one of the biggest potions business in Hogsmead. Upon discovering her magic, her granfather took her in and taught her about potions. Holly is the only one who went to Hogwarts come september due to her family’s neutral alliance. Her squib mother and muggle father made her an occasional target of the Carrow’s reign of terror, and after easter holidays she didn’t come back to Hogwarts.
The Skull: Is a strange artefact Lucy found after a raid. A ghost trapped in a jar of unknown origin, he is Lucy’s first real introduction to non-harmful magic, and while not very helpful he convinces her to go to Hogwarts. George likes to experiment with it.
Quill Kipps: A year older than Lockwood, pureblood and from a borderline dark family. Pompous and arrogant, he is the slytherin poster boy and an excellent dueller. His connection to the Fittes family, provider of funds for the reconstruction of the wizarding world, makes him a shoe-in for a position in the new ministry of magic.
Flo Bones: Flo knew the Lockwoods from of old and often played with Jessica and Lockwood as a kid. However she was bitten by Fenrir Greyback just after Jessica’s death and didn’t possess enough magic to be accepted into Hogwarts. Flo has an excellent knowledge of knockturn alley and the Hog’s head, working as an assistant at the bar.
Inspector Barnes: One of the few aurors stationed at Hogwarts for security against stray Death Eaters, long-suffering and exasperated.
Fittes and Rottwell: Two influential families that fought against the dark side, now competing for top influence in the ministry. Rottwell owns a potions company known for its innovation and efficiency. Fittes has a partnership with Gringotts, controls most of the stock market and owning a furnace for destroying dark artefacts rounded up by the aurors.
As to the houses, I think that Lucy will go to gryffindor, George to ravenclaw, Lockwood has elements of both slytherin and gryffindor but in the end his ambition and certain disregard for the rules will make him slytherin, and Holly the hard-working belongs to hufflepuff. Kipps’ crew has slytherins and ravenclaws.
@lwcthemes
Steve Rottwell and Penelope Fittes, chairpersons of the two biggest agencies in London. Their competitivness dates back to the start of The Problem, Rottwell always trying to play catch-up to Fittes. The characters themselves rule both with an iron fist and are morally ambiguous. As of the end of TCS, one is dead and the other, soon to be by my estimation. Of the two I prefer Fittes just for the sheer pretentious factor and mystery, though Rottwell has the whole asshole thing going for him. @lwcthemes
