lorelei-the-witch, here are my thoughts on tarot! Sorry it took a couple of days. It’s been pretty busy here.
Theme: Absolutely deck theme changes things. Not wholly, but my cards interpret differently depending on theme. The same card in each of my decks will mean something slightly different. It might not be a wholly different meaning, but the angle of the interpretation skews depending on the deck.
What do I work with?: I work with entire decks. I rarely work with just majors or just minors. I keep thinking that I ought to get a majors deck just for flavor, but then I don’t, so there’s that. :)
Card Connection: Yes, I have a connection with my cards. However, I have that through working with them. They have a personality that comes out in common imagery and the kinds of readings I’ve used them for. When I read for friends who are here in person, I let them pick their preferred deck. I think that the energy from the deck is pretty specific.
Temperamental Decks: Yes, it’s a thing. There are lots of theories on it. Maybe it’s a future you’re not ready for. Maybe you’re asking a question that you really do already know the answer to. Maybe the energy of your deck is thumbing its nose at you. Maybe the answer really is in front of you, but you just can’t understand it.
How I started: Spouse bought me a deck. I’d been interested for years and years, but I’d only really dabbled. That deck just came at the right time. I learned how to use it, and then I learned how to use the deck we already had. I did a daily reading challenge, which got me into the habit. After that, I did another that I told myself I could only do if I didn’t look at any reference material. It all came together nicely then.
Suggestions: Find a deck that just sings to you. Find something with imagery you love (for whatever reason - your deck, your truth). Daily reading challenges here on tumblr are a great way to get going in the beginning. Feel free to ask questions and pose thoughts. It’s a pretty interactive community!
