hey! i know ive been posting a big steaming pile of nothing, but i am almost done with the polls (i just need to handle some personal stuff first sorryyy), so i'm posting the round 1 overview ahead of time. i plan to post these overviews after all the polls of a round with all of the matchups and a taglist (lmk if you wanna be tagged btw!). again, so sorry for the delays!

And the winner is...

THE WATERMAN BUTTERFLY!

Congratulations to Waterman's projection for this highly esteemed prize.

In second and third place we have the Stereographic projection and the Peirce Quincuncial.

An interesting top 3 I think, not what I was expecting. We've got a polyhedral compromise, an azimuthal conformal, and a polyhedral conformal. Though I do think this conclusively proves that people prefer projections centred on 20°W rather than on Greenwich.

Round 1A - 32 Projections

And the showdown is upon us! 32 projections are battling out to be crowned the champion among all maps. Remember, you can vote based on whatever criteria you want: Does it look good? Does it have a lot of uses? Is it a good choice for its main use case? Anything goes!

The first round of 16 polls will be posted in groups of 8.

Political maps and Tissot's indicatrices will be shown under the cut on each poll, as well as any common alternative presentations of the maps. If the maps competing are similar or have the same aspect, I'll provide a direct link to easily compare them on map-projections.net

SEMI-FINALS - 4 Projections Remain

Getting close to the final here as four projections remain in competition, the polyhedral projections are coming through strong with 3 projections in this round, with the field being rounded out with an azimuthal projection.

Round 2A - 16 Projections Remain

As we're going into the second round and have already met all of out contestants, I've slightly changed the format of the posts.

Like last round this will be split in two, this time into groups of four polls. Now go and vote in whatever way you want!

Round 1B - 24 Projections Remain
