Historian Geology Site Added Clipping Service

Web Site www.family-historian.co.uk, in 2014 teamed up with My Heritage to add new services to the site. One is that the site added a Web Clipping capability to the site. The article says they added this service to make it easy to move information from your project with full citations. It also makes it easy for people copy pictures, facts from the website by using the drag-and-drop system. This is neat to see other websites are using this kind of service to make it easy for people to use their sites. This makes it so that people can save information without needing to download another service. Wonder what other web sites added this kind of service to their web site.

EverNote

Evernote is another program that is similar to DocuMagix. KM World from 2012 says it is a service the provides the capability to capture content, annotate, add metadata on to it. The content can be searched for and retrieved and managed on different devices. If there is web documents, notes and images you want to tag or annotate this would be the service you would use.  

A great feature for this program is that it is great for students who are doing research. An article from Learning & Leading with Technology about Evernote talks about how the clipping of websites works. It is a browser extension that all you have to do is press ‘Clip’ and your browser will save the text, images and layout of the web page for later. At the end it says that students can use this function to save the websites they may use later for their research projects. It will allow them to reference them later when needed. No need to go back and redo a search to find that page again! Where was this when I was doing huge research projects? Never knew about this!

New Information About Clipping and Round-Up!

Found out more information about Web Roundup and Clipping services! An article from Searcher, July/August 2000 talks about Web Monitoring and Clipping Services Round-Up.

Some of the points from the article

·     Companies want to see what people are clipping from websites and other places. (With this article being from 2000 I am guessing that this is still being done to this day.)

·     Monitoring websites is a big deal. By keeping an eye on them along with clipping data companies can get a better understanding on what people are looking at and what they are most interested in.

·     The article list’s many different services that provides clipping and monitoring that was available during 2000. None of those services are around today but there are many new services that are doing the same thing that those listed did plus more!

Also, from what I understood from this article, round-up and monitoring means the same thing. When searching for web clipping, monitoring comes up with it. When adding Round-up in to the search as well I end up pulling up even more monitoring information with clipping attached to it.

Seems like I am going to add a clipping/monitoring services for all these posts. Let’s go for one that everyone may already know about but wouldn’t know it’s a clipping service!

Web Roundup & Clipping Service

This is a service that allows people to “clip” web page content and read them offline.

There are services that can allow people to do this. There is one article from the New York Times that dates all the way back to April 1st, 1997 talking about DocuMagix program. This program is still around to this day.

DocuMagix is now a plugin that people can download for a fee. It helps people make, manage and maintain online and offline documentation.
