Hey! Sorry about not getting back to you sooner, it seems that the tumblr app ate my reply.
The set was fairly simple: the main piece is just a large board cut to about 3’ x 5’ which is c-clamped to a support that i built so that i could drill tie-down holes into it. I covered the wood with a sheet of burlap so that 1. the leaves would stick better to it, 2. so that there was a bit of an uneven texture, and 3, it would cover up the tie-down holes better. Next was the trees which I just went to my local park and found twigs and sticks that had fallen to the ground. I leveled off one end of them to make it easier to attach them to the wood/burlap with hot glue. After that, I collected a bunch of leaves from outside and waited for them to dry & become very brittle. I crunched them all up and used spray adhesive and wood glue to attach them to the surface. Some of the leaves are still pretty loose, but I’m okay with that.
A tip on gluing down the trees: If you look closely, you’ll see that some of them sticks are attached to small blocks of wood. That was a time consuming mistake that I would fix if I wasn’t on such a time crunch. Hot gluing the leveled sticks straight to the surface would have been WAY EASIER but I thought I was helping myself by making them sturdier this way…in all realness, just a nice clump of hot glue worked wonders on them since I used both methods.
