THESE GOSH DARN KIDS. It seems every time Hubie tries to ride his bicycle through his town, the kids have it out for him. Yesterday, a kid threw a full grown cow at him. A cow! Thankfully the cow was okay and so was Hubie, but it seemed like something that can only happen in Salem. He’s swift in his movements, dodging every object the kids throw at him today, just like he does every day. Swerve, crouch, lay back like it is time to do the limbo. He thought he was safe today, but that slowly comes to an end. Suddenly, the tire of his bicycle hits the curb of the sidewalk. Like magic, Salem becomes the edge of a cliff. Literally. It becomes a towering cliff overlooking jagged and dangerous rocks. But Hubie knows it’s already too late. He is ejected from his bicycle and thrown off the ledge of the cliff. His bright orange helmet and Halloween cheer can’t save him now. This is the end and he knows it. He thinks his heart would drop into his stomach, but all he can think about is his beloved Violet Valentine. Was she flirting with him the last time they saw each other? None of that matters now.

His battered body hits the sharp rocks, each edge slicing his skin further beyond recognition. Hubie SCREAMS like he just saw his mother naked, which, is an odd last thought, especially after thinking about Violet. But one rock seals his fate, plunging into his stomach further than he can remove himself. Each struggle ruins his insides more. The realization hits that he can only wait upon the rock until his body goes numb and he dies.

The numbing comes sooner than he thinks it would, eyelids growing heavy as the world begins to black out around him.

“Happy Halloween”, he whispers, and it all goes to black.

he loves his job, he does, he likes the fight and the thrill and the feeling of power that comes with protecting people who can’t protect themselves. plus, he does his best to stand on the right side of justice. to make the world a better place. but also, sometimes, he is tasked with guarding wealthy, bratty nobles that don’t seem to understand that the people of this city are quite literally starving to death. it’s not fun, or easy, but he takes it with the same charm and ease he takes everything else god decides to throw at him.

“my lady, i understand this is not your ideal situation, but i am here just to keep you from dying. i suspect you may have an interest in staying alive, though if i am wrong feel free to let me know so i can return home to my bed.” that’s a lie, he wouldn’t leave her. probably.

ICY EYES STAY GLUED TO THE PAGE, her pointer finger tracing the shape of the creature that has caught her attention for the last twenty minutes. Luna is unaware of how much time has passed, nor does it matter right now. She has read every word three times so far, about to start on her fourth when she is brought out of her stream of consciousness by a clearing of their throat. Eyes still wide, almost glazed over, she takes in her friend for a moment before resuming to her book.

“You have to see this! It’s a Thunderbird. But they’re only native to America. Look at them...” her finger traces over its largest wing, trying to trace the shape into her memory. “They can create thunderstorms just by FLYING, which seems amazing considering the landscape this one is pictured in. It looks rather dry, don’t you think?” Her friend says nothing, peering at her like she has three heads like a three-headed dog. “... They’re also extremely sensitive to danger...”

SHE WILL NEVER FORGET THE SOUND OF HER HELMET CLINKING TO THE GROUND FOR THE FINAL TIME BEFORE IT WAS THROWN INTO THE CLASHING WATERS. There have always been times the helmet has been removed -- for eating, bathing, and sleeping, but it was always placed down gently. As much as she wished to destroy her helmet in front of her superiors in the mess hall among her ship of residence, she maintained her composure. Yet when the time came to shoot and she lowered her weapon with her squad, she wished to see the helmet she honed burn along with the rest of the First Order.

Kef Bir seemed to be the safest place with her group. Uninhabited by humans and with rough waters, no one would look here. There are times in which she fears the helmet she threw into the waves will wash back up on land to spite her. She peers across the vast ocean to the ruins, growing numb to the itching brush from the tall grasses with the assistance of the ocean breeze. Her fingers tighten upon her bow, one of them twitching as she attempts again.

MEMORIES. Memories of anything: of home, of her childhood, of her family. The First Order won in that sense, her mind would remind her. There is NOTHING left to find as hard as she tries. But there are memories to be made now. She is finally able to carve her own path.

So many of her group have already chosen a name, but she has struggled in it. For now, she is only “leader”. The crash of the waves leaves no syllables, nor does the silent ruins. But the rustle of the grasses cause her ears to perk up.

Jannah, it seems to whisper.

JANNAH.

“Jannah.”

“No.” There are actually very few things his family wants to do that Five doesn’t want them to do--so long as they’re not irreparably fucking up the timeline for the hundred thousandth time, and so long as they never expect him to join them in all their nonsense and hijinks and just plain dumbassery, they can do whatever the hell they want, no skin off his back--but he absolutely has to put his foot down on this.

“We are not having a--” he stops just long enough to let out a scoff, to let his little sister know exactly what he thinks of this godawful idea, “--‘Halloween party’. We are not having a whole bunch of strangers we barely know milling around the house. It’s not happening, Allison. End of discussion.”
