peace-tied update, yes for real

yeah so i've been still working on this story but slowly, and i had half a chapter done like literally years ago, wrote it right in continuity with the last bit that it took me years to polish up and post, and then i had to write the other half of the chapter, and i finally managed that and then it needed another editing pass and just now i was up early and feeling shitty and thought i might as well throw myself at that long-delayed editing pass only to open the doc and realize

i'd already done the final editing pass

so anyway i had to fix almost precisely nothing, so that was easy, and i'm very grateful to past-me and also to @bittylildragon who had done the beta-reading that had let me know what had to go into that last editing pass and then i don't know when i did the editing??? i don't know. but it's done.

so. In this chapter, Gascon Brossard gets to report on what he's learned, and we get some more progress with Yennefer trying to figure out What Is Saskia's Deal, etc. maybe reread the story if you haven't in a while because i also admit i had to because it has been uh so long since the last update.

A while ago I wrote an introduction for the Iorveth/Roche part of my Modern AU, and while it is far from finished, I quite like this part, so I'm sharing it here:

Ciaran does his best to close the apartment door quietly behind him so he won’t wake Iorveth, but it turns out to be unnecessary. Iorveth is still awake, sitting at the small kitchen table, glass in hand and a bottle of cordial in front of him. For a moment, Ciaran is worried, but then he notices that the bottle is still mostly full. They have lived together long enough for him to be used to Iorveth’s bouts of insomnia, but they usually happen at specific times, and Blathe usually isn’t one of them. “You came home alone”, Iorveth observes. “Dianach still works night shifts. I’ll take a drink as well.” Iorveth isn’t wearing his headscarf, so Ciaran can actually see him raising his eyebrows, but he doesn’t ask more questions and instead fills a second glass. Iorveth watches him drink but barely nips at his own glass, instead continuing to move it from one hand to the other. Ciaran tolerates his fidgeting for a while, but when Iorveth almost spills the cordial, he has had enough. “Will you tell me what’s up?” Iorveth stops the fidgeting and takes a long sip, but he doesn’t answer, and his green eye pointedly avoids looking at Ciaran directly. Ciaran waits a moment longer for Iorveth’s answer and sighs when it still doesn’t come. “I’m going to bed.” He moves to get up, but Iorveth grabs his wrist, making him stay put. “I may have slept with Roche a few times.”
