Does your vet have any idea what might be wrong with him? Poor little guy. Also, just curious - is he named after the Vulcan Surak from Star Trek?

The vet ran a bunch of tests and suspected some kind of infection so she prescribed antibiotics. He did get better for a while and started eating more, but now he’s losing weight again. I don’t know if it wasn’t an infection to begin with or if it has just come back. I hate to put him through more tests but I’m worried about him.

And yes, I totally named him after the Vulcan, Surak. I’m a huge Trekkie! Star Trek was actually my first fandom, and Spirk was my first ship! I wrote a bunch of Spirk fics before I started bouncing around to other fandoms (the most recent of which is Tolkien). =)

I read this as “I only drank half a bottle of vodka today,” and I was like, “oh no, you can do it, you can drink more vodka!”  Probably you should not, though.    And I always want your advice.

I always angst over this, because I love pie so, so much, but all-time favorite is sour cherry pie, unffff, so delicious!

63. First concert?

The Kinks!  I was on the young side, but when my sister won tickets on the radio, my mother basically dropped us off at this arena and was like, godspeed.  They came on way late (I think they headlined, but I honestly don’t remember) but they were amazing!

Okay, I’m going to narrow this down too, because I would angst over it forever otherwise, to include only homemade meals, only things I would make on a weeknight (so not overly complicated) and only recipes I can link online, in case anyone wants methods (I am too lazy to type up things from my cookbooks atm):

Vegetarian West African Peanut Stew

Ditalini with Pesto, Beans, and Broccoli Rabe (I use my own pesto, though)

Pan Bagnat (endlessly customize-able. I often sub pesto for basil, and/or kalamata olivada rather than just chopped olives)

de-aged Bones <3 I'd love to read that. It's always Kirk and/or Spock who gets de-aged, and I love those fics, but I bet Bones would be a cute kid.

Ahhh, I am psyched to hear you’d like to read it!  And definitely, I think I’ve only run into one de-aged Bones fic.  Even considering there must be a few more somewhere out there, it’s obviously not been done much at all.   I’d love to combo it with a Spirk romance in the background, but make the focus on Bones and the issue of returning him to normal as well as all kinds of interacting with him as a child.  I have many thoughts about kid!Bones!!! Actually, I also just love de-aging fics in general, and I’ve only written a handful  (a little set of stories in BtVS featuring kid!Xander and kid!Spike).   I’ve  considered writing a series of de-aging Star Trek stories, each one a separate narrative, in which various crew members of the Enterprise are de-aged (everyone except Jim and Spock) and explore the outcomes of all those changes.  Maybe one day! rowan-baines replied to your post “U and Z? <333

With major character death I think I'd be more willing to write it than read it. But OMG, I got surprised by it once in a fic as well and it totally messed me up so bad, so now I avoid it!

Me too!  I’ve read tons of character deaths in original fiction, of course, and I don’t object to any that fit narrative progression.  But there’s something about being blindsided by major character death in fanfiction that seems completely unfair!  Everyone must obey my arbitrary rules!  (jk, I get that broadcasting that plot point is the author’s choice, and rightly so, but I do appreciate warnings and tags so, so much).

U and Z? <333

U: A pairing you might like to write for, but haven't tried yet.

Oooh, I love this question!  From AOS, McKirk -- Jim and Bones (because best friends and grumpiness and never-leave-the-other-one-behind thing), Christopher Pike and Jim (because so many enticing issues), Christopher Pike from AOS with many, many other characters (because damn, Bruce Greenwood); and just a bunch of combinations of slash pairings that we don’t often get to see written.  For TOS, I have this thing for McCoy/Natira, so that would be lovely to try them out one day, and I totally see the Spones for TOS, so why not that too?

Z: Major character death--do you ever write/read it? Is there a character whose death you can't tolerate?

Major character death is something I’m absolutely up for in original fiction, but I generally don’t want in my fanfic.  I’ve definitely read it -- both in situations in which I knew it was coming because of warnings or tags or in-story hints, and circumstances when it was a total fucking surprise and ruined me FOR DAYS, OH MY GOD -- but I don’t generally seek it out in fics I read unless they are so highly recommended that I succumb.  My basic answer is that I’d really prefer major characters not to die unless there’s canon support for it or it’s a natural fit with the timeline the author has chosen (older/aged characters).  But in terms of absolutely-can’t-tolerate, I really, really dislike when the death of a major character gets treated as incidental, an aside -- if they’re a major character and they’re dying, it better be a big deal in terms of how the story treats it or I will be so grouchy.  :D

To continue my last answer, never say never. My current long fic was an idea from 2013. I started it in like November of that year...there’s like...800 words of complete fail. Now there’s 74k of it! lmao bye

V: A secondary (or underrated) character you want to see more of in fic?

Uhura, Chapel, Rand, M’Benga. None of them are underrated or secondary, but I always get super excited when one of them show up in a fic.
