In what many are considering a shocking move from Coach Michael “Robby” Robinavich, former US bronze medalist Frank Langdon has been added to the crew of the USA Olympic men’s eight. Many are wondering if he is ready to come back after being absent from the sport since suffering a major back injury after Paris, followed by what was unfortunately a very public struggle with anxiety due to misfiled medical records…

I wanted to do some shorts for Gallavich week but this is the only one I actually started... And it's not finished, but I thought I'd post it to Tumblr anyway, and if you like it maybe I'll finish it and post it to AO3 sometime.
Thanks to @gallavichthings for organising the event. 💜
Gallavich Week Day One: Sports
On the River
The boat club locker room is a dangerous place to check guys out. Three of the crewmembers had made offhand homophobic comments before, and while Ian's pretty sure they don't mean much by it, he's not in a rush to out himself, just in case. He's doing well with rowing... He thinks the crew have a good chance at their next competition, depending on what the new rowers are like. So he's keen not to rock the boat.
This new guy makes him slip. Because he's hot. Hard and soft in all the right places. Muscles shifting effortlessly under his skin as he pulls off his hoodie to reveal a very well-fitting tank top underneath. Dark hair and pale skin. Gorgeous profile. Expressive eyebrows.
I rewatched The Boys in the Boat and Masters of the Air this weekend, so naturally, there's a crossover.
There was always something magical about ascending the shell house stairs - an element of trespass, reserved for greater mortals than the ones on the floors below. The realm of the coach and occasionally the coxswain, where strategy was decided and college careers were made and lost.
For Cord Callaway, however, it was simply her father's office. "I brought sandwiches," she said, wedging the door open with an elbow without the necessity of a knock. "Ham, tomato and cheese, and some of the salami from that deli downtown that Coach said he liked last time. And there's fresh coffee downstairs, too, when you want it." The tray went down on in the middle of the large table where they had congregated, hair mussed, shirtsleeves out, hats on the tree by the door - a far cry from the greater mortals imagined downstairs. Just four hungry coaches trying to decide on who to keep and who to cut from this year's starting eight.
"Food of the gods, Miss Callaway, you are a wonder," Becker said with relish, reaching over the table and their sheaves of notes to take a wedge of sandwich, lettuce shreds trailing over his time trials. "What would we do without you?"
"Starve, probably," Red Bowman said dryly, reaching for his own.

Day 9 of the 2026 February Ficlet Challenge, with the prompt "iridescent" and going with Eric/Ariel in the modern AU of my multi-fandom Rowing AU. Previously in this AU, Eric had been knocked out of his boat during a regatta, and when they finally found him, was certain that a young woman had rescued him from the water.
I know nothing about rowing, but after reading just a little bit of your RWRB rowing AU I would definitely vote for that one! Alex rowing on both sides, I love it!
Baby boy is bi-sidal and I won't apologise for that 😌 (so am I lmao). FYI rowing term - odd no. seats are "bow side", even numbered seats are "stroke side".
Feeling like if I write this fic I'm gonna put this little explanatory diagram at the front to explain what your sweep 8 seat says about you (sorry to anyone that's been a 3 seat...I was a 3 seat once 😂).
If anyone wants to guess which seat I was, go ahead!
@heytheredeann tagged anyone who wrote over the holidays to post their latest line, and I did write a little when I came back from Boys in the Boat in a half-asleep state of delirium.
This is from 'about knives and spoons', obviously:
This is the second time Kuryakin has pushed him into the water at the dock.
Feel free to hop onto the tag if you have something you wanna share.
the foxes putting the riggers on their boats the morning of a regatta and instead of being helpful andrew is throwing nuts and bolts at people
