Hey guys. So @sitaarein asked me how to do the below effect. It’s quite complex but imma try my best here.
1. So the first thing you’ll want to do is have your two words. I find it’s better to have them at more or less the same length and the same number of letters. It just makes it easier for the spacing.
2. Rasterize your text so that you can edit and break it up into sections.
3. This is how I divided it up. You can use cntrl+R to bring up your ruler toolbar and then pull these guidelines into place to help you.
4. I used the selection tool and cut + PASTE IN PLACE (shft+cntrl+v) into a new layer to make the different sections of the word. You’re gonna want each of them on a new layer. I’d make a group for each section for easy sorting.
5. Once you have each section in a group of its own, make 2 copies of each. So you will have 3 layers per group.
6. Move your second word into place. You’ll want to overlay it and get it in line. (You don’t have to change the opacity of the first word. This was just to make it easier to show you)
7. Divide up the second word and put each of the sections in their own group. Make sure there are also 3 layers in each.
8. Now you’re gonna switch off the visibility of your second word for now and go back to your first word. We’re gonna set different blur levels for each layer. Let’s start with the top of the GO section. Make sure the first copy of the layer is selected.
Go to filter > motion blur
9. Make sure the angle is on 0. And then set it to 10 pixels.
10. Now make sure the second copy of the layer is selected. And repeat the steps but this time set it to 20 pixels.
10.1 Do this for every section of the word. So each section/group will have 3 layers - one @ 0% blur one @ 10 pixel blur one @ 20 pixle blur
11. Now bring up your timeline toolbar. This is how you’ll animate the text- frame by frame.
12. In the first frame, make sure all the layers with 0% blur are switched on.
13. The next few steps get tedious. So bare with me.
Now you’re gonna start blurring your letters. This is gonna be a staggered process. You can start with any section and switch off the 0% blur layer and switch ON the 10pixel blur layer.
14. In the next frame, switch it to the 20pixel blur layer.
At the same time, you’re gonna start blurring a different section of letters. Here we switched on the 10pixel blur layer of GO section
15. Now the word GODDESS is gonna start changing into the word MONSTER.
In a new frame, You’re gonna switch off the SS section of word and switch on the ER section of the second word. Make sure it’s set on its 20pixel blur layer.
At the same time, the GO section is now on the 20pixel blur layer.
16. Now switch GO into MON in the next frame. Make sure it’s set on its 20 pixel blur.
ER is now on its 10 pixel blur layer.
17. As we progress to the next frame you’ll see the letters of MONSTER come into view. ER is now on 0% blur
You’re gonna start blurring the rest of the GODDESS letters.
18. Change the blur intensity on each group until you have the second word in view.
19. At this point in the animation, you’ll want to create a pause on the second word so I’ve set the delay to 0.5 seconds. You can adjust it to whatever you like.
20. Now we’re gonna reverse the process from the second word into the first word. Repeat the same steps for the blurring until you morph the word back into the first one.
Make sure you create a pause at the end by changing the delay to something longer.
Now run the whole animation and make sure the looping is set on forever and it should be done!
You can export it as a GIF by going file > save for web.
