“We have a joint operation up in Central next month, so that's something to look forward to I guess,” Riza says.

“Don't sound so excited,” Rebecca says, savoring a sip of coffee with a bite of dessert. “There's lots to like about Central – the food, at the very least. Even if you don't have time for shopping you have to eat. Don't let Mustang force you to eat at the cafeteria or get food from the commissary for every meal or I will personally kill him."

“Well if they're not peonies, pray tell, what are they?” he asks.

“I think they're carnations, which represent everlasting love.” Rebecca holds one of the stems between her fingers and inhales deeply. “They don't smell like much.”

“I still say they're peonies. I grew up in a house full of women. I would know.” Roy can imagine what Chris would say if she heard him utter those words, as vividly as he can imagine Riza rolling her eyes at him.

“You must not have learned anything from them,” Rebecca snipes back.

“Would you like to hear my theory?”

He sets down his fork, having only managed two bites of his lunch. “Not really, but I think you're going to tell me anyway. You may as well get on with it so I can enjoy my lunch.”

She looks skeptical but doesn't comment, forging on with the topic of Riza rather than critiquing the cafeteria food. “I think she has a secret new boyfriend that she is keeping from us.”

“Where is Hawkeye, by the way?” Roy asks.

Havoc shrugs. “I think she went out for lunch.”

“That's unusual, don't you think?”

Havoc gives a long suffering sigh. “I think it is normal for her to be tired of microwaved soup or whatever. Would you like me to give an accounting of how many places I've eaten out this week?”

I've been working on a piece called An Argument for Therapy for the @royaibigbang

It will be posted on @ao3 Oct 3rd under more_than_melody with @littlewitchbee doing some lovely companion art pieces. We're putting together some previews, as are plenty of other artists and writers participating in the project so keep an eye out for those as well <3

“I didn't take you for a coward, Mustang. I might not like you but I thought you were made of more substance than that.”

Roy has heard Rebecca Catalina call him a coward more times than he can count at this point – usually when she is trying to goad him into something - so her statement comes as a surprise.

“I thought you thought I was – and I quote – 'shallower than the dregs in the bottom of my coffee cup.'”
