In my royal AU devilfruit users are born with their powers which manifest on their 6th birthday. The people have since started a tradition called „rite of purity“. A ceremony where children are guided into the water by one of their parents as friends and family sing. For everyone else this is supposed to be a celebration to wish good fortune, prosperity and health for the child.

For the „children of the devil“ it is when their power manifests. The traditional lanterns and lights there to illuminate the water go out as the water turns black. The sigil appearing on the body part relating to their power or curse the most as it burns itself on the skin. The powers aren’t inheritable. It is however speculated that children of sigil bearers are more likely to have children that become cursed with devils powers as well.

The sigils spread when the powers are used and shrink again as usage stops. The placing is relating to either whichever bodypart may be affected or symbolic of the power. Logia powers usually have their sigils on the back or chest. The children of the devil are shunned and seen as cursed demonspawn. Many of them go on to become warmongers and criminals, some vagabonds while others fight for equality and acceptance in society. A good chunk of them hiding their powers in an attempt to fit in and live in peace

Young prince Ilya was very excited for the celebration but shortly after he entered the water the family and maids singing turned into screams and cries of horror. Ilya was dragged back to his room. His father trying to reassure him. Telling him it was going to be alright as he covered Ilyas mark with his long hair. Ilyas mother wouldn‘t be able to look at him for weeks. His time outside the castle was limited until eventually they decided it was best to hide him inside the castle walls. Where he and with him the perfect royal familys secret were safe and sound.

Only now that his 31st birthday came around the king and queen decided to send out invitations to other royalties. Inviting them to a royal ball at their castle in hopes of finding an appropriate suitor for their only child. But even they couldn’t have been prepared for the events to come.
