Well, he DOES have to keep to his plan and control the current ruler by any means. He's already gotten far enough that you'll sleep with him, so after he has his crisis, he'll convince himself that this was supposed to happen.
Nah, he would have made sure that DIDN'T happen regardless if he knew you were human or witch before he even started courting you in secret. He knows that if it did, it would expose him and destroy everything. With Royal!Reader, he has to take every precaution he can in order to get away with what he wants since he's essentially walking a tightrope. He doesn't need anyone to try to convince you to either banish or execute him if he's caught. If you're human or powerless, it'll put you in further danger.
