Le Petit Journal OTD Dec 10 1916 publishes this picture of a messenger dog on a mission jumping a soldier in a trench Le Petit Journal Le Chien de liaison part en mission

Thousands of dogs lived and died on both sides during #WWI. They served multiple roles during the war. The Canadian Dog Memorial on Elgin Street, Confederation Park, Ottawa lists messengers, medical assistants, bomb detectors, and search and rescue workers.
