The typewriter gods have been blessing me lately. Found a Royal P with Vogue typeface 30 minutes from my house the other day, and today I acquired this beautiful 1927 Royal P in alligator red with elite typeface! A shout out to Everett E. Henderson Jr. for the counsel!

Collected this yesterday. A Royal P mark 1, serial number dates it to 1929. Wasn't working, it is now after much swearing from the other half!! A few months back I purchased a beautiful red Royal P. Unfortunately the carriage rails were bent beyond repair. I decided to look for another Royal P whose body wasn’t in great shape and swap bodies. I found what I thought was another Royal P and purchased it, but lo and behold when I received it in the mail it was in fact a 1934 Royal Model A with the tabulator function. I was able to swap the bodies and only needed to do a minor modification to the rear panel to accommodate the tabulator system. When I purchased this 1930 Royal P on eBay the seller was selling it as a parts machine. The description was the carriage didn't move and they thought there were probably other issues - nothing specific was stated in the description. I received it last Monday and have been working on it ever since. There were many issues: broken draw band, bent carriage rails on the body and on the carriage, ribbon vibrator was bent, the shift mechanism was bent not allowing the carriage to sit properly. I'm not sure if all these issues were the result of the machine being dropped or of someone tinkering with it. The paint and keys are gorgeous so it certainly wasn't from neglect and I am leaning towards it probably being dropped. Long story short a week later, it is all back together and typing nicely. Lesson here is that all "parts machines" don't have to be parts machines and can be brought back to useful machines with plenty of life left in them. This was a challenge and took a lot of tenacity, and staring at parts to see where things were out of shape and then gently forming them back into shape.
