xie lian is probably expecting regular donations at the shrine, but the joke’s on him, jin zixuan bets he’s never had a box full of (in his humble opinion) completely useless (rare precious) gems and jewelry (that would sell for a small fortune). satisfied with his prank, he walks away with his head held high.
Who is doing this ?
He had already brought the gold bars back to heaven to be returned to its rightful owner , but just like that , his donation box was full with valuable objects once more. He really did not do anything recently to deserve this , and it had all been left without a single request. Was this a mistake ?
Perhaps he should not be so uptight , after all a donation was a donation , even if he felt it was misguided. Looking through the objects , the shine and luxuriousness of each one , almost made him fearful of touching them . One of these gems could probably buy ten of his Puji Shrines. With a careful hand , he begins sorting through the haul . Some of the villagers had asked for new tools , perhaps they could sell these for some ? A particularly nice gem would be a good gift for San Lang , and Lang Ying could use some sort of inheritance for the future , but his conscience would not allow him to take anymore for himself.
Even after sorting through those he wanted to keep , he was left with an abundance of jewelry and no discernible owner.
Pulling his sleeping mat over the rest , he had no idea what to do with the rest , but perhaps out of sight out of mind would work for now.
he knocks rolled-up paper on nie huaisang's forehead. though the blow is just above feather-light, the smack echoes throughout the room, hopefully waking him up from whatever it is he's been thinking about instead of listening to jin zixuan explaining this lesson for the fifth time. dryly, he asks, "care to repeat what i just said?"
He dreams of beautiful things , inked words flowing like rain against parchment , and cranes that break through the deep blue of the sky into a world of stars. He wants to follow them , out into that world with no obligations , but hard as he tries a pressure keeps him grounded. The gentle slap against his forehead does nothing , but the resounding echo is enough to force him from his slumber. He remains still , hoping whoever it is will determine he’s a lost cause and simply leave him alone.
Only when he hears Jin Zixuan’s voice does he remember he’s in the middle of a lesson , a favor to him in reality. Nie Huaisang makes an effort to get up slowly like he was only resting his eyes ,and not off to the world of the unconscious. “ Hah , uh — ” but he can only give a sheepish smile , eyes scanning around to latch on to whatever his generous tutor might have been talking about.
He finds nothing .
“ I know , I know you said ,” he says more confidently far more than he feels. He smiles back at Jin Ziuxan the perfect look of innocence as he fiddles with his sleeve . “ You said —care to repeat what i just said?“

In another world, it took him two lifetimes to understand the meaning of those words. His life had been a plethora of tragic events, lessons waiting for him to learn. He used to believe that Jin Zixuan was the one who would bring Jiang Yanli the kind of life he himself had feared; the kind that was filled with arguments over picking up a stray child left unwanted by the streets, the kind that woke him up in the middle of the night to blinding lights in the pavilion a few gardens away. He believes Jin Guangshan to be the most undignified man he has ever met for his relationship with Jin Zixuan’s mother, though hushed when whispered from ear to ear, was no queer secret to the cultivational world. And therefore he would believe that his son would have eventually emerged to be just like him.
Yet at this moment, the identity of the boy he possessed right now permitted him to say nothing. He only stared at Jin Zixuan in the eye as his ‘eldest brother’ bandaged his wounded arm. The cut was obtained when Mo Xuanyu was still being abused by the Mo Manor and its residents, he supposed. He did not ever remember wounding himself. ‘We are from two worlds, but we are one family.’ the repugnant, high-handed golden peacock Wei Wuxian remembers him as says. For a moment, his mind had delved into thinking Jin Zixuan meant the Jiang and the Jin families, but it took him a glance into Jin Zixuan’s eyes and saw himself ( as an unfamiliar face and an unfamiliar man ), to realize the ‘Jiang’ was not the family he meant.
❝Don’t get so friendly with me, hmph! Who says we are a family? If someone else hears this, they’d definitely think I just want to leach off you Jin people’s gold and money. That will do some damage to my reputation, won’t they? I still want to find a good man to marry!❞
❝So my surname is ‘Mo’, and I’ll never be a ‘Jin’. Take it as my first warning to you, Jin Zixuan!❞ In his heart, the words were: I will always be a Wei, and I’ll never be a Jiang. So I won’t ever be part of your family.
❝ Well, well . . . what’s this here ? ❞
A PITCH BLACK EYE stared lazily upon the mural of a white peony against the golden yellow backdrop which made up the wall of the room he occupied. It had been simple enough to use the distance shortening array to infiltrate the palace grounds. That wasn’t to say, the koi tower was easy to get into by any means, there was quite a hefty group of guards and cultivators at their disposal. But Hua Cheng simply had his ways, transformative or occasionally more forceful, in order to get into places he wanted to.
And really all of this was just to satiate his interest in the place. After seeing those grandiose tales of former leaders and cultivators of the highest degree painting the paved paths up to the estate, the Ghost King had wanted to see the worth of Lanling Jin sect for himself. They went out of their way to make such a show of it, why, even the tour guides would invite a Ghost King to their doorstep. How could he possibly resist ?
But who would have guessed that someone here would have emperor’s smile from the Gusu province stashed away ? Leaning on his side against the golden brocade divan, the immortal kicked up a boot and took a great gulp of the stuff just as someone entered. Oops !

Jin Zixuan resembled an incarnation of everything he considers annoying. The loop of a smile meandered up his visage that professed the healthy curve of a man in his primes. For reasons that could only be known to himself, it seemed that every time this man stumbled within the ambit of his vision, an urge brimmed of want fills him to the core... of wanting to punch him!! ❝Call me whatever you like, Jin Zixuan, but I have a proposal. I’ll say it anyway, whether you want to hear it or not. If you win me in a fist fight...❞
❝...I’ll let you marry shijie.❞
Though the offer did not include Jiang Cheng’s consent. For that is another level entirely!!!
