The meetings were only once a month but Aron was really starting to get tried of them. “They are of the up most importance.” His father, King John Carstairs II would tell him in a firm voice. “An alliance with the Lightwoods saves both our kingdoms from financial ruin and the shared information from the High Warlocks of our kingdoms keeps us protected. Go. And behave.” The same lecture every time.
Aron rode in between two of his royal guard trying to not look too pouty. As soon as he had turned nineteen his father had started to send him on these alliance meetings in his stead with their royal advisor. Thankfully the Kings had agreed it was only fair to share travel time. As such for the past two years every other month he was in traveling for two days, or if he wasn't traveling he was preparing for a day long meeting where essentially the same thing was gone over. We’ll help you in such in such way for such and such thing. We’ll trade you this thing for that thing. And so on and so forth.
Honestly he and the other Prince, Alexander Lightwood, hardly ever said anything in these meetings. It was always the advisors arguing among themselves with Aron and Alexander cutting in to keep them on track and remind them what their respective fathers wanted.
Soon Aron and his guard were at the entrance to the Lightwood kingdom. Trotting forward ahead of the guard in front of him he dug around his bag to pull out his fathers letter of safe passage. Not that he really needed it, it was more of a formality, the guards at the entrance had been seeing him six times a year for the last three years all the way back to when his father dragged him along before he’d come of age to travel alone. The guards let him and his group pass without any problems bowing respectfully as he entered the Kingdom.
“Boredom here I come.” He muttered.
