the emergency room is bustling with doctors, nurses, patients, other hospital personal all avoiding … an entire tree branch? jayce is about to question if they should move the branch before he realizes it’s obviously IN someone at the moment. he quickly a v e r t s his eyes, dropping his gaze to his hand that he cradles in his lap. the skin is slightly swollen around the haphazardly wrapped wound, and there is a minor burn up his forearm that he’s trying to avoid thinking about. while the pain is, well, awful, jayce doesn’t care. if he’d been alone in the lab he might not even have decided to get any form of professional treatment for at least 24 hours. possibly longer, depending on the results of the next test. instead, he’d been working with is partner, and had been less urged, more ordered to go to the ER.

he almost doesn’t hear the sound of the voice as someone rounds the curtain, but after a few seconds delay his eyes shoot open and he sits up a little straighter. The inventor drops the remote, wincing as it slips off the bed and glands against its side as the cord attaching it catches before colliding with the floor. “ oh, sorry. hi, ” he says, smiling politely despite the a w k w a r d n e s s . “ what did you say? ”
