Christmas fic!

Fitz only ever celebrates because of his mum and they’re at the Academy so he’s sort of glad he doesn’t have to put on a happy face this year. He has too many bad memories of Christmases with his drunk dad to really enjoy the season. 

Jemma loves Christmas and has a playlist full of carols and an and elf hat as a toque and indulges in candy canes as her preferred study snack all through December. 

She knows Fitz hates Christmas, so she doesn’t try to drag him into things, and he appreciates that. He knows she loves Christmas, so he buys some eggnog for his fridge for when she comes over. He writes JEMMA across it in sharpie so she knows its hers.

She drinks it even though she hates eggnog.

She’d been planning on flying home for the 25th and a day on either side. It was all she could manage with their workload, but her parents had paid for the ticket and she’d take all she could get. A week before she’s set to fly, one of their projects goes awry. If they lose the time while she’s away, they won’t complete it on time. She cancels her trip. 

She’s sad but puts on a brave face. Fitz worries and feels horrible. On Christmas Day, she goes over to his place to work and when he opens the door, his whole apartment is decorated and there’s a massive tree with a box of decorations beside it. Jemma had told him that was her favourite part of the season. He’s wearing an ugly Christmas sweater and holding the largest candy cane Jemma has ever seen. 

“Did you really do all of this? For me?”

Ok I like totally agree with what you're saying about how his healing would have been drastically improved if he had realized who he was in the framework. But when AIDA took Fitz at the end of this episode, I genuinely believe that it opens the door for a different path of self discovery. Now, he's going to be the one that shuts her down for good. And choosing to do so, I believe, will make him realize his worth in this world and help him distinguish himself from the doctor.

Maybe? I do admit, that sounds like a good thing however, I’m more than a little worried about him being with AIDA right now. 

He’s now trapped with his abuser in a time when what he really needs is to be with people who actually care about and love him. He’s coming out of being brainwashed with the burden of two lives lived on his shoulders and it’s going to be a very confusing and painful time for him. 

AIDA will be focused on forcing him to see how good of a thing this all is and how he should still “love” her and that is exactly what he doesn’t need right now. Because he’ll have AIDA reenforcing the idea that everything he did was for a good purpose which will make him think that on some level he wanted to do it. They even made Fitz say that “I wanted to do those things” to showcase that that is the core of what he is struggling with right now. 

Do I hope that this helps him heal? Of course I do. But I’m still so wary about this whole healing process. I still don’t think they are going to allow him the time to heal that he needs, that he and Jemma both need

They what now? Huh. I mean, I shared them publicly so that everyone could see them... I wonder if that means that Google thinks I specifically “shared” them with you. Interesting.

These are all great points. This show really doesn't allow the time for trauma like it should--I completely agree. I also don't know anything about trauma so I apologize if this is unrealistic, but wouldn't it be even more heroic to see him stand up for himself now? Now that the stakes are higher? Idk

I do agree, it would be a good way for him to end AIDA. However, those memories of all the things he did will always be with him. 

Even knowing that it “wasn’t him”, he still killed Agnes, he still beat Daisy, and he still held a gun to her head. No matter what happens, he’ll still have to deal with the fallout of that. And, because they didn’t let him fight against that side of him when he was in there, that will make it that much worse. Even if he does end AIDA, he’ll always have to deal with the questions of his own morality and the idea that somewhere in there, maybe that side of his is still there because he apparently didn’t fight it while he was in there.
