Rafal wouldn't be able to pinpoint his own romantic preferences due to general inexperience and doesn't seek after specific qualities. With the low life expectancy of Sombron's children, having a partner also isn't a possibility or forecast that he ever anticipated for himself.

The harsh reality is that Fell Dragons of alternate Gradlon are thinned out on multiple fronts by fighting their father's wars or sibling infighting. Rafal didn't expect to survive to adulthood and the normative luxuries of life like partners and mates felt far out of reach. When the true Nil in the DLC remarks that siblings stronger than himself have died, the sense of anxiety and danger is then doubled down for the weakest children who had no remarkable abilities to speak of.

In totality, it means he has few standards when it comes to appearance or personality. It ultimately doesn't matter to him whether someone is ugly or attractive, has positive or negative personality traits, is a man or a woman, so on and so forth; however, due to his childhood loneliness there are things that he absolutely wants out of people.

That checklist is both very short and very demanding:

A heart that has room for only him

Eyes that will look at only him

Someone who will love only Rafal

This sounds easy on paper, but Rafal is a character of extremes who loves very intensely. He's made jealous in a romantic context by seemingly inconsequential details. If you so much as speak alone with someone he perceives as a rival, young or good-looking or even neither of those things - an individual just capable of drawing out your laughter or your smile - he sees a problem.

There's a deeply ingrained and unconscious desire for him to feel and receive love. To heal his formative deficit of it as a twinless Fell Child, to satisfy his natural intensity of being, his ideal life partner would be someone who adores him wholeheartedly, even single-mindedly. That is most attractive to him and that is most desired.

Byleth sighed inwardly as they entered the arena and saw the final rounds enemy. Legends of yore once more though in shadowy form, all of who the Professor recognised. They moved swiftly too, taking out one of their own before their team even got a hit in. Byleth felt and ember of anger alight in their chest and they stepped up to the plate. The dancer withdrew their blade and set off across the sand feet moving to their own tempo. Channelling the rhythmic drum of their feet and the moves they’d recently learned, byleths blade flashed out to strike the dragon ish form of Corrin.

The force of the blow wasn’t massive but targeted at a place designed to knock the enemy to the ground. It played out as Byleth imagined, locking Corrin in place. Not pausing in their movements, continuing the dance, Byleth followed up with a second strike. Jabbing their sword into the gaps in Corrin’s scales.

"i've found you. you're the guy." the way the words come out of the exuberant, multicolored elusian seems to hold some yet-undivulged meaning — ' The Guy ', as though claude were world-famous.

he might as well be as far as rosado was concerned.

"i've heard it too. everyone's been saying it. that your wyvern is the cutest that garreg mach has ever seen."

for an instant, it looks like he might be angry about it, or jealous, or resentful. and certainly there's a way the light hits the shine of periwinkle opal-blues that gives them the look of something more than just enthusiasm. but rosado breaks into an excited grin nevertheless as he balls his fists, as though he's never heard of anything more fascinating. ". . . you have to show me!! i'm rosado, one of your golden deer, so since you're our house leader, you totally will, right?"

Claude huffs amusedly in reply as he snaps the rather thick book in his hands shut, contemplating the presence of this interesting character from where he sat in the library. His eyes seemed to dart around Rosado's face as if studying him; almost sizing him up.

"Okay, so, a lot to unpack here. But firstly," he swivels his pointer finger in a circle vaguely, deciding not to indulge in the fact that there were rules set up for uncertified students directly owning young wyverns on church property. After all, this Rosado character was a new face--who knows? Claude hopes there isn't a tattletale underneath that boisterous demeanor.

"I'm pretty sure you got the wrong guy (not really)." I mean, imagine it, me, totally unqualified (qualified), running--no--flying around with a wyvern? Pretty sure that would have Her Grace's churchly robes in a twist. And I'm trying to set a good (kind of) example as house leader and all, right?"

"I mean hey, people talk. But I hope you find that Guy you're looking for."

without warning, hands clap down over hortensia's eyes. "got you!! hehe, i finally found you."

then they release, and the perpetrator appears around to the front to reveal sparkling opals and a cherubic face that brightens, if possible, even more as it trail down from the top of the princess to the rest of her. "oh. my gosh, hortensia, i adore your outfit. of course, leave it to elusia's cutest princess to look no less than the best on a day like this! the capelet is such a good touch, and the layering of these ruffles?"

attention lifts again to her face and a hand extends boldly and eagerly. "rosado here, reporting for duty! you'll give me your hand for my vine of course, won't you?"

"y–eeep!"

Between the emotional rollercoaster that had been speaking with King Diamant alongside finding out so many of her classmates had leveled up their cuteness score significantly maybe she was off her game? Oh, but the party was just getting started – as soon as her captor lets her spin around and speak her mind she will really let them have it.

Oh, it was just Rosado. That was fine and explained it then.

"Rosado?! Omigosh, did you just get here? Right on time too since it seems this a first of a kind for Garreg Mach!"

She twirls around to give Rosado a better show of her outfit once he comments upon it, smiling all the while: "right?! The boutiques here are actually quite good, I was impressed. Oh but Rosado - you've out done yourself too, you know! Is that an original?"

Before they can get too distracted Rosado reminds her of the other aspect to this dance party. She'd nearly forgotten! It seemed like the type of game Rosado would enjoy though so she happily agrees, taking his hand in hers with a curtsy.

"But of course. This magic," she says, watching as earth and air intermingle before giving them each their respective bloom, "I've never seen anything like it before!"

[ ylisse ]　⊹　"come on pandreo, this one should be easy enough for you!" eager hands refuse to relinquish the cleric's, hauling him by both palms towards the sparkling dancefloor as the first chords of the foreign rhythm begin — somehow, miraculously, avoiding running into anyone else along the way. "how are you going to turn heads at your church parties if you can't put in a few steps with the best of them? your dancing right now is great, don't get me wrong, but having at least one formal one up your sleeve couldn't hurt."

introit draws to a flourishing bridge, and then the real waltz cadence begins; fully on the dance floor now and still shackling the other firmly by the hands, rosado's movements and footwork start to move with the steps, eyeing the more fluent motions of some actual experts nearby to try his best to copy them. "see? one, two, three; one, two— ooh, that dip looks like fun! hold still pandreo, i want to try it—"

no one appreciates a good stanky leg these days. pandreo considered himself a man of the people. he knew how to get down. it might've been objectionable to most people with eyes, but he knew all the newest dance crazes! where all those other church fuddy duddies might not have thought to liven up the dance floor, this priest knew how to get down and downright nasty with it if he wanted to. the ball, strange as it was, had been marketed it to him as a party, and so a party he'd expected: not a ball, a thing he thinks so little about that he doesn't think he's ever actually seen one in solm in the first place.

of course, the spirit accompanying him could not have stressed harder the importance of dressing the part, even if the rest of him hardly suited it.

( he is choosing to willfully ignore that he'd partaken, partook? in a dance with the divine one, mostly because he doesn't think he could think about it without wanting to explode from embarrassment or religious shame. )

pandreo had resigned himself to spending the better part of the night sadly swaying side to side, thumbs jerking in one direction over his shoulder before he'd switch to the next, when out of the woodwork comes one super-excited faefolk he doesn't expect. "rosado?!" the yelping isn't exactly the most graceful thing in the world, but he doesn't think on it for too long between the navigating through the crowd and trying to avoid tromping on that poor man's feet. "when did you—oh, sweet mercy," it's less a dance than it is falling into rosado's steps. "when did you get here?"

he seems to learn what to do with his body much faster than pandreo, though this poor priest does his best to learn and try to keep up to some modicum of success.

the questioning, the answering—eeeh, it doesn't get very far, because the minute it's put into rosado's mind that he wants to do a dip, pandreo has no choice but to brace for impact. by the time he comes into consciousness, it's morning and the ball's over.

Of course she’s afraid of loss. Who isn’t?

Loss means being deprived of something - or someone - important. The fear of loss only amplifies with the higher one holds themselves, even if they try their hardest not to show it. The more experiences they go through, the more they can potentially lose. Value and priority of what can be lost may vary, but it should never be considered at all costs.

This is only emphasized by Yuzu’s morals. A mighty warrior never intends to lose battles, let alone ones she chooses. And for what she can remember from her times back in endless wars, she has never suffered a loss. Otherwise she wouldn’t be standing here today, would she?

Her ethics concern loss beyond mere combat, however. Shy or avoidant she may be, Yuzu would be nowhere without the close allies she made within Boundless Chaos. Even when they were forced to face one another on opposing sides on a whim, their survival was prioritized above all else. She’d never want to lose any of them. Or any of her other friends, for that matter.

She hasn’t lost him yet either. They will meet again…soon.

≻ is your muse a people pleaser ?

Yuzu is not a people pleaser. She would never go out of her way to ensure the happiness of anyone only for her detriment. Even for the goals she aspires for the most, the samurai holds a small priority over her well being above all else.

Rather, Yuzu is a person pleaser. Is this a term I made up? Yes.

While a person generally willing to help, there isn’t a group of people Yuzu would risk her life for more than the fellow Cipher characters, especially her fellow Hoshidan and Nohrian. As a proud warrior born from Hoshido, she feels a strong sense of companionship for Emma and even Shade, as the latter is still a neighbor of Hoshido before rougher times. The earlier mention of “risking her life” is a bit of an exaggeration, but Yuzu is at least willing to sacrifice some of her wellness for their sake.

There is a general sense of when Yuzu may be willing to please those who are strangers to her; that being other comrades in battle. In a sense, Yuzu is still brash at heart and will make rash decisions in the heat of battle. She’d prefer to not have the weight of an ally’s loss on her shoulders if she could have done something to save them. So if she sees that something, she may very well try it. This sense of pleasing still doesn’t really come from wanting to please them, however.

One final person that Yuzu doesn’t think twice to please is (or was) her older brother. Those times of lessons that pushed her to her limits could easily be seen as her putting her sibling’s expectations over her own health. But even so, she valued the training as her own self-improvement first, with impressing her superior a very close second. In general, the girl holds high respect for her family and the path they had put her down before she could even consistently read.

Even the general endgame of Yuzu finding her brother, then showing how she’s surpassed him, can be seen as a form of people pleasing. If you want to go that far.

[ WATER ]　/　"thanks, professor!" the fae chirrups brightly with his best smile as he hands over one of his starfish in exchange for an answering anchor——after all, they said professor rafal was one of the curmudgeonly types, and even if it was kind of a shock that a fell dragon was teaching at the school, well, the divine one had proven to be pretty friendly after they got over the whole living god bit, so why not?

"actually, there was something i wanted to ask you." idly, he stoops down to pick up the other's glass of water that'd been put down for the exchange to hand it back to him. "in the world where you came from. . . what was that rosado l—? wh, huh?" an uncomfortable pull tugs on his hand when rafal goes to take the glass——it's stuck fast to his palm and fingers.

his heart sinks as a familiar painful cold starts to spread. "oh no. oh——noo, come on, not now!" the awakened magic going out of control again ; normally he'd give his hand a strong shake on instinct, but that might send everything flying ; but as he gives another harder pull, trying to pull free, already the glass is crystallizing over with hard ice, the water on the inside made solid.

wait, hold on, that meant——

rosado yelps as the glass shatters in their hands from the pressure of liquid expanded to solid, scattering crystal and verglas shards across persons and marble floor.

Specters came in many a shade, both bright and bursting with impression, others mute and subsisting on the very precipice of memory. Where the living buoyed before him with every element and bouncing curl screaming to be noticed, the fallen conducted themselves with diffidence to extremes. Rafal entertained such thoughts as he swapped charms with the ostensibly young Rosado - young so much as primordial serpents as Rafal or Nel might appear, anyway.

Steady crimson and a total lack of amusement peered back at the young man, undying across all encounters. Predictably Rafal did not respond to thanks, but instead made a beeline for other matters more pressing: "I would advise against that asking. Such perilous curiosity may lead you to answers you possess no liking for."

Of course, this was a road that been tread before. There had been others who listened to Rafal's words, delighted in them none, and snapped beneath the weight of their eldritch knowledge like boughs in a storm of their own making. He thought a warning naught but necessary; even still, he conceived the answer silently. Quiet had been those three, the younger Elusian princess and her retainers; and not so unlike Nel and Rafal with their Winds deadening all presence to survive. One Rosado so far as memory could recall had never been nearly so bubbly or individualistic. But perhaps the same could be said for all those hailing from a ruined world.

"Let us leave it at this: you and your—what the. . .?!" Shock, boggled and unfeigned, plastered itself across the dragon's expression. Magic? He hissed at the abrupt combustion of the glass, shards flying here and there - nicks also here and there. Thin cuts fledged upon his pale cheek and the back of his defensively raised hand to which Rafal paid no heed. After all, there remained only one curiosity left for satisfying.
