When a Deadly Epidemic Led to a Deadly Massacre  (1820, The Philippines)

"When a cholera epidemic hit Manila and nearby areas in 1820, thousands of people died in a matter of hours. Carts carrying dead bodies were everywhere, and not enough survivors were left to bury them all. 

Surprisingly, some of the deaths were not even cholera-related; rather, they were the victims of a gruesome murder frenzy. And it all started by a RUMOR.

  The first case of cholera was observed along the Pasig River on October 4, 1820. It is believed that the disease was introduced into the country via the port of Manila, and originally came from neighboring countries that were likewise affected by the Asiatic Cholera Pandemic.

Despite the efforts of the French to offer medical assistance to the afflicted, some of the natives suspected that these foreigners poisoned the river, which then led to the epidemic. Rumor has it that the French wanted to take over the Philippines, and killing all the Tagalogs was part of the plan. The paranoia culminated on October 9th when hundreds of Filipinos conspired to plunder and massacre all foreigners–except the Spaniards–in Manila, Binondo, Tondo, and Cavite.

In the end, the carnage claimed the lives of up to 28 Europeans and several Chinese. The chaos only subsided when the governor finally appeased the mob."

They said that the latter one was vague when it came to whether it ended or not.

Initially, the two European powers relied on one another because of their same interest which was stopping Spain and Russia from expanding their powers.

But...

Depending on which articles you read, the English said it was because the French didn’t send aid during the  Anglo-Spanish War of 1727–1729 it convinced a lot of people that their alliance was over. The end of the alliance was never formally declared, but by early 1731, it was widely considered to be over.
