hi! what's genderbend?

Genderbending is when you portray a character as the “opposite” gender (in binary terms). For example, @lettherebedoodles‘ interpretations of genderbent Disney characters (original post here):

Some see genderbends as controversial, given the fluidity of gender identity and roles, while some people have no problems with it.

Hello!! Can I ask about what the rp blogs mean when they say they're unaffiliated / non-affiliated with a fandom?

I haven’t seen any with this label, I’m sorry! My guess is that they are an “indie” RP blog. Indie basically means that they are not affiliated with any roleplay groups and they just do their own thing. It could also mean that their muse is not part of any fandom. (i.e. It doesn’t come from any public media and is possibly an original character.)

what does meta-gaming mean? i saw it in a muse's bio, and i feel like it's godmodding, but it sounds different!

hi !!! to quote wikipedia, “metagaming is any strategy, action or method used in a game which transcends a prescribed ruleset, uses external factors to affect the game, or goes beyond the supposed limits or environment set by the game. another definition refers to the game universe outside of the game itself.”

that’s really convoluted, though, so basically what it means is assuming something that another character is doing without them confirming it. for example, a minor act of metagaming would be insinuating in a rp that the other muse (that you’re interacting with) gave them the screwdriver when your muse asked for it, even though the other mun didn’t write that in their reply.

godmodding, in contrast, is basically hyping up a character to impossible levels, or literally making them become god-like. as in, ‘my muse can’t be beaten!’

over time, though, people have started to use these practically interchangeably, so confusion is understandable ! hope that helps

hey hi, was wondering how to properly use the terms "multiverse", "private", and "indie" via a rp blog description? And for mobile (w/o the app, so safari for example), is it possible to use icon/reaction pics in the reblog? I have been unable to find a way :/

Multiverse (literally a combination of multiple and universe) means you are willing to use your muse in more than one “setting” or “world.” For example, if you’re RPing Ash from Pokémon, you could have his “main” verse which takes place in the Pokémon world where he is a trainer. Then you could have a second verse that takes place in post-apocalyptic Kanto region where he is a zombie hunter. And then a third verse where he’s a ninja and becomes best friends with Naruto. So on and so forth.

Indie is short for independent. Calling your blog “indie” is basically saying that you are not affiliated with any RP groups.

As for the icons in mobile… I don’t know any ways to do this. Unless you were to use HTML and paste the image URL into your post, which would require you to have the image source available. Which is very tedious on mobile.

Godmodding is not controlling another character. Godmodding is modifying your own character to make it so strong that it is impossible to kill. Hence GOD modding.

According to Urban Dictionary, you’re right! I gave the definition I grew up with, which I suppose is actually metagaming. I have seen people use both terms interchangeably. Either way, both are bad things to do. Thanks, anon.

Actually, meta-gaming is, when a person uses their personal knowledge of the plot/the character they roleplay with in a thread. For example character A murders someone, but nobody knows they did it. However, character B is miraculously aware they did. A more subtle form of a meta-gaming would be character B being suspicious of character A, even if they don't have any reason to, only because the mun of B can't blank out their own person knowledge.

Hi, i've been into roleplaying for a long time. but, the word "roleplay wise" i've beem hearing about it with other roleplayers and one just asked me that "do i have my 'roleplay wise'". do you know what it is? if you do please help! qwq thank you

What is an open roleplay? I see many of them around. I want to jump in, but I'm not sure.

An open roleplay is a brand new in-character post that anyone is welcome to respond to. They can vary from one-liners to multi-paragraph “introductions.” The point of an open roleplay is to hook potential partners in with a concept (whether simple or complex) in a way that makes it easy for your muses to interact. Here’s an example from one of my blogs again:

It would be tagged with #open roleplay, #open rp, and perhaps a few other tags to make sure people see it. You can see that even though it’s a short post, it should be easy for you to reply with your muse’s reaction. Pretty much anything in the #open roleplay tag is okay to jump into.

A synonym for open roleplay is open starter.
