//What would be the fae equivalent of “oh God”
🙄
A snippet of my current D&D game
Me: is a tiefling barbarian
My group: has spit up in a town so we can try to take care of multiple things at once
The Bard: is known for taking her shenanigans a little too far; has decided to follow me to help
The Alchemist: is also known for derailing the campaign slightly, but is not nearly as bad as bard; also following me
Yes, the three stooges have gone off on their own to try and do a thing, without a single straight-man Yes, this was a mistake
Me: has plans to try and make friends with the npc we’re going off to see, and I’m actually trying to take this seriously. Said npc got mad at our group for lying to them, and I’m trying to patch things up since they can be a valuable ally
The Bard: has decided to disguise herself as a crazy old lady since she essentially wants to spy on the npc, also decides to take the “crazy” part a little too seriously. Rolled really high on her disguise skill check, so it’s damn convincing
The Alchemist: has also decided to disguise themselves as an old man to fit in with the bard
Me: knows for DAMN WELL that these two will probably ruin my shoddy plan with their shenanigans. Rolls Intimidate, attempting to pull these two aside and stare them down, wanting to make sure that they know I do not want any shenanigans here.
Me: Fails
The Bard: really decides to act like an innocent, crazy, old lady, and yells out as if I were attacking them
The Guards: Takes note of this, proceeds to arrest me, thinking I’m some ruffian. Doesn’t help that I’m a young, chaotic- looking tiefling with wild pink hair, animal skins, and a couple skulls on my armor
The Alchemist: realizes that this is going in a really bad direction, tries to tell the guards that there is a misunderstanding. Rolls bluff since he wants to pull it off like I’m actually their granddaughter
The Alchemist: Fails
The Bard: continues her act, is still crying and yelling
Me: proceeds to get pulled off to jail, yelling over my shoulder at the bard to either help or drop the disguise spell
Guards: scolding me like I’m a troubled teenager, and how I’m going to sit in a jail cell for a night to learn some manners
Other players: find out what happens, the ones who come to the guard house try to convince the guards to let me go, and that there’s a misunderstanding
Other players: fail their rolls to try and get me out
Me: begs the bard to drop the disguise spell
Bard: nope, continues to act like an old lady with dementia
Everyone: gives up, there is literally no way to make the situation better, too many failed rolls at this point
My mission/intentions: failed
Bard: is laughing chaotically out of character
Me: proceeds to lie around the jail cell floor, dead inside, bored, and seriously contemplating giving the bard a punch in the shoulder when I get the hell out of here, unless she bribes my character with booze
Me: *internal angry dying noises*
I love my group, but goddammit the chaos and shenanigans are real
so last night my 7′2″ qunari warrior was trying to buy some knitting supplies from an old lady at the market. the DM rolled composure to see if she’d make a scene going OH NO THE QUNARI ARE INVADING. and rolled triple 1s. so he decided that this old lady, upon catching sight of a one legged, one horned qunari man, was just going to have a straight up heart attack.
and that’s the story of how i almost killed someone with my face alone.
“What is of equal value of getting to sit in the front seat of the car?” discussing seating plans and exchanges with our fae characters 😂
First session of our Dresden Files rpg and we’ve been arguing for half an hour about the specific wording of a deal we want to make with an npc - why did we decide to make Fae characters 😭😂
what they don’t tell you about running a ttrpg is that you will have to go “… so you, on purpose, walk directly into the fire? the supernaturally hot horror fire that is consuming the kitchen now also?” and the answer is a big fat yes and you have to just kind of go the the brennan lee mulligan stages of grief and hope another player intervenes
