Caelwyn:
The ground hums.
Like it’s trying to speak through my boots.
Stacy:
It is.
Elvehøje has layers.
The top remembers the living.
The bottom remembers the dead.
This middle part?
It remembers regret.
A slow vibration shivers up through the turf —
not an animal, not weather.
Something older.
Something patient.
Caelwyn:
I felt it pull.
Like the soil wanted my foot a little deeper.
Stacy:
That’s the Hollow.
A burial that dug itself.
Sometimes… places mourn harder than the people ever did.
A thin crack opens beside them,
no wider than a breath,
yet deep enough that cold rises like a warning.
Caelwyn:
I don’t like how dark that is.
Dark shouldn’t have weight.
Stacy:
Here it does.
Some shadows get left behind when a soul moves on.
They get lonely.
They climb.
A whisper climbs up the crack —
dry like leaves,
wet like lungs,
wrong like a memory you never had.
Caelwyn:
…Did it just say something?
Stacy:
Yeah.
It said your name.
Twice.
His red beard stiffens in the wind,
a flare of color against the grave-grey sky.
Her blonde hair flickers like a lantern
despite the air growing colder instead of darker.
Caelwyn:
What happens if I answer?
Stacy:
Depends.
If it’s the Hollow’s echo?
It will steal your voice to fill its emptiness.
If it’s the thing inside the echo?
It will ask for more.
Caelwyn:
More what?
Stacy:
More of you.
The parts you don’t think you can lose.
The crack widens,
a slow inhale from the underworld.
Stacy:
Stand still.
Don’t lean in.
Don’t call back.
The Hollow only owns you
when you believe it already does.
