( dominic sherwood, 21, he/him ) welcome to reprieve, JACE HERONDALE who is from SHADOWHUNTERS, SEASON 2. rumor has it they are a SHADOWHUNTER, but only they could tell you the truth ! when i close my eyes, i think of them and imagine LEATHER JACKETS ON BROAD SHOULDERS, IMPULSES REEKING OF DEVOTION, AND BOTTLED UP EMOTIONS.
ok im way too lazy for proper intros (which i applaud all of you for), so, here are just some bullet points for those who aren’t familiar with jace yet:
jace wayland-lightwood-morgernstern-herondale. it’s complicated—what matters is that his real family is the herondales, but he doesn’t know that yet and thinks he’s a morgernstern.
basically, no one wants to be part of the morgernstern family. they’re looked down upon because of valentine, who is like voldemort, but hotter. he wanted to create a shadowhunter army to erase all vampires, werewolves, seelis, anyone with demon blood out of existence ( called downworlders ).
he had basically kidnapped jace and forced him into a ~partnership~ with him in creating that army because who doesn’t love family bonding time?
thankfully, he’d escaped, but then was imprisoned because the boring, stuck-up shadowhunter politicians accused him of treason, so, pretty much, he didn’t really get to catch a break.
of course, things couldn’t stop there. there was this magical mortal sword that once wielded by someone with Pure angel blood, it would yeet all downwolders into the oblivion.
so, what did jace do? you guessed it. in his defense, he thought he had demon blood when in reality, valentine had coerced him into believing he didn’t have pure angel blood because he was his son ( news flash: he’s not. does he know it? no ).
the exact moment after he got a fun moment to relish what he’d done—massacring a whole room of downworlders—he got pulled from his dimension and dropped here. in the show, he found out valentine wasn’t his father and clary wasn’t his sister moments after, but we love pain and angst, so, i’m not giving him that knowledge yet xoxo
i’m gonna say he’s been here for a couple weeks, enough to settle in, but he’s still confused as hell and having emo depressed hours listening to my chemical romance
( dylan o’brien, 19, he/him ) welcome to reprieve, STILES STILINSKI who is from TEEN WOLF, SEASON 6. rumor has it they are a HUMAN, but only they could tell you the truth! when i close my eyes, i think of them and imagine INK STAINED FINGERS, COMIC BOOKS, PLAID SHIRTS THAT REMAIN UNWASHED AND EMPTY TAKEOUT BOXES.
HISTORY: in depth can be found here. everything is canon until the end of season 6.
PRESENT/RUNDOWN.
it’s been a year since he’s talked to his friends, consumed by the internship and the freedom it offers. he wanted to do good: not just be the clumsy fool he’d come to be known for.
he’s doing well at it too, passing the classes. it’s strange for him to actually feel like he’s genuinely good at something and then he’s sucked from that bubble. wants to assume this is some more crazy shit: expecting the worst and hoping for the best right? he doesn’t get it but he’s trying to help. trying to find his friends.
( samantha logan, 20, she/her ) welcome to reprieve, MAYA MARCELI. rumor has it they are a WERETIGER, from REPRIEVE, but only they could tell you the truth! they reside in the ALPHA district. when i close my eyes, i think of them and imagine A DIAMOND-STUDDED FLASK, THE SHRILL SCREECH OF A TEA KETTLE ABOUT TO BOIL OVER, AND THE SMELL OF DEW-SOAKED GRASS
maya lives with her three parents. yes, you heard me kids, she’s got THREE parents. you’d think this would be a good thing, more love to go around, but tbh it’s not been her experience. her mama, MARIE, is a career climber; we’re talking smashing glass ceilings, fighting any man who might say she’s not as tough, or as competent, as they are. as such she works long hours, is a high profile lawyer. she’s the tough bitch that rips criminals into little pieces and feeds them to the jury. she’s an absolute shark. her mother, BIANCA, is the exact opposite. she volunteers her time for various charitable organizations in the city and spends more time planning brunch than with her daughter. they’ve got three incomes; three high profile incomes, tbh, so money has never been an issue. her papa, LITO, is… well, she’s not sure. he’s always said his job is very secretive, very private, and would never speak about what he does for a living. i think at first she assumed it was something sketchy; drugs, or maybe the mafia. but one day her curiosity got the better of her and she struck gold. she picked the lock on his briefcase and found out that he was working for a government organization. he was undercover, she thinks, trying to take down the mob from the inside. it’s why she transferred schools, why her father has been working longer hours, disappearing for days on end on business trips. he’s playing with fire and trying not to get burned.
with little time and attention sent her way, in a family filled with people so focused on their own wants, their own needs, they tend to forget about her. it wasn’t always like this. when she was a child, young, shiny, and new, they doted on her lovingly. it was only as she got older; less soft, more OPINIONATED, less CUTE, that their interest waned. like a puppy given to a child, abandoned when it outgrows its puppy years. she tries not to take it personally but it’s hard not to. so used to spending time by herself, it’s no surprise that she warmed to the first boy who really looked at her. JAIME KAPLAN. they were young then, her face round, eyes wild with wonder, and she’d wanted to help him so badly it physically pained her. she’d asked her mama for help, maybe they could be alone TOGETHER in this big empty house, but just as suddenly as he’d arrived in her life? he was gone. things went south and she never saw him again. ( but this is the middle of their story, not the end. she just doesn’t know it yet. )
the marcelis come from a family of shapeshifters that are able to shift into weretigers. it’s a gene that they carry, and is triggered when they reach puberty age. all her life, her parents were forcing her to take ‘vitamins’ that would help her mature. she had no idea that the pills they were giving her would actually prevent her from shifting, some concoction they’d cooked up with a witch some decades earlier. her parents took them too, suffering the physical pains that came from not shifting and rejecting your true nature. it was when maya unlocked the briefcase that she found notes about the medication, of the doses they’d been giving her to try to ‘cure’ her disease, that she realized how truly SCREWED UP their family was. she exploded, forced them into telling her the truth, and threatened to leave and never return if they didn’t allow her to be who she was supposed to be. they acquiesced, but her father hasn’t spoken a word to her since the discovery. she’s DESPERATE to win his favor again but knows she can’t stomach the pain, can’t be the person they want. it’s why she memorized the names on the files, decided to dedicate herself to infiltrating this world that her father was trying to take down from the inside. she was helping. or at least, that was how she justified things at first. the deeper and deeper she gets, she’s lost track of who she’s really living for; her family, or for herself. a sense of BELONGING she’s searched for her whole life.
as she’s gotten closer and closer to the people who have direct or indirect involvement with the gang, and grown to care about them, she’s started seriously questioning her own motivations. when she finds her smoking gun - will she even want to use it?
PERSONALITY / PERSONA:
she made a pact with herself when she decided to commit to infiltration; do whatever it takes. be friends with, screw around with, screw OVER whoever she needed to in order to get in the inner circle. i think she expected them all to be… insufferable? awful? when she realized how fun everyone was, how much she genuinely LIKED their particular brands of insanity, things got more complicated.
she’s very much a yes girl. you want to dance naked in a fountain? yes. you want to do lines of coke off her dad’s mercedes? yes. do hallucinogens and write your maths exam? hell fuckin’ yes. i feel like she has no concept of where the line between rational and irrational even is anymore. it’s gone. poof. the lifestyle is intoxicating, as is the camaraderie that comes along with it.
being a yes girl has gotten her into some trouble in the past. when a prank went wrong, maya found herself in a spot of trouble when her would be victim turned on her. she’d shifted in front of him, thinking it would be funny to scare him, and he lashed out by hitting her with a rock. she passed out shortly after she was buried alive, too disoriented and injured to prove that she was still alive. the details after that are foggy. maybe she died, or maybe she crawled her way out of the grave, she’s not sure. she can’t remember and she honestly doesn’t want to.
kind of a bitch if you don’t know her well, even more of a bitch when you do. she’ll speak her mind but knows when to keep her mouth shut too. she has a temper and tries to keep it in check but that isn’t always the easiest. incredibly loyal and FIERCELY protective of the people she cares about. would kill for them.
TLDR: she’s a weretiger. she has three parents who lowkey neglect her but it’s fine. her dad is infiltrating the mob, getting in with THE MAFIA LEADER’S people, and when maya found out she decided to do the same … except she’s in too deep and maybe it’s not about her dad anymore. she will fight anyone that comes for her or her friends but tbh just wants to love, be loved, and receive positive attention.
( brant daugherty, 26, he/him ) welcome to reprieve, VALENTINE MORGENSTERN who is from SHADOWHUNTERS, PRE-PILOT. rumor has it they are a SHADOWHUNTER, but only they could tell you the truth! when i close my eyes, i think of them and imagine CONVICTIONS STRONGER THAN IRON, BLOODSTAINED HANDS, AND EMPEROR'S NEW CLOTHES BY PANIC AT THE DISCO.
bc i hate myself, i decided i needed to play a circle era valentine. ha, ha, ha, ha. we love pain.
previously on shadowhunters
valentine was one of the clave’s best and brightest shadowhunters in his youth. his whole family were legacies; the bravest and the best, each generation trained ruthlessly to ensure they could handle themselves in combat. this led valentine to both love and despise his father. he resented his unforgiving spirit, how hard he could sometimes be on him, but knew that he made him a better fighter.
while attending the shadowhunter academy in idris, near alicante where he was born and raised, he formed an organization called the circle. initially, the circle was founded to protest the antiquated views of the clave and the consul. they were young voices, all ambitious and hungry, and longed for a world where they could be better than the generation before. they wanted to reform the downworld — and the accords — and forge a new and better world. everything changed, however, after valentine’s father was murdered on what should have been a routine werewolf den inspection. his mother, shortly after, died of a heart attack. grief, valentine would say to anyone who would listen. grief was killed her. a broken heart. their deaths changed something in valentine. he hardened, his views becoming more radical, and his desire to reform the downworld turned to a hatred for all downworlders. he saw them all as demons, as creatures that masquerade as humans, and if they couldn’t be controlled they needed to be eradicated.
as the circle began to grow in power, valentine started experimenting. first, on himself, and then later on his unborn children. when injecting himself with demon blood, or angel blood, he saw temporary changes to his strength, powers, etc, but because he was an adult they never lasted. he figured that if he experimented on a child before their birth, he’d have a better chance of bringing about the strongest generation of shadowhunters. he married jocelyn and fed her demon blood while she was pregnant. he did a similar test with stephen herondale’s wife celine, with angel blood, from the angel ithuriel that he had bound and held captive in the cellar of their house. he also did some other questionable things around this time. when lucien turned on him, his parabatai, he put him in a position where he was bitten by a werewolf. they fought and he told lucien if he had any honor, he would kill himself. he didn’t stick around long enough to figure out what decision he’d made. as his parabatai rune faded away, inflicting a pain worse than death upon him, he barely felt it; his humanity was so far removed, it was like he couldn’t feel things like pain, or love, anymore. or so he liked to think.
shortly after this, the uprising was planned. the circle would attack accords hall when the accords were to be signed, killing all of the downworlders inside. poised for peace, none of them would be prepared; it’d be a slaughter. jocelyn, disillusioned by valentine at this point, conspired with downworlders to put a stop to his plan. as a result, they were prepared for the assault and many circle members died during the uprising. valentine, sensing defeat, fled and faked his own death — and the death of his son — so that they wouldn’t come looking for him. he also kept stephen herondale’s son, jace, and raised him as his own.
where is he now?
valentine is pulled from a post-uprising world. this would be before he fakes his own death and jace is sent to live with the lightwoods.
he’s still reeling from the loss of his parents, of his wife, and his own failures with the uprising. that said, his end goals are still the same — he just doesn’t know about a lot of the integral moving pieces. yikes, yikes, yikes.
( aria shahghasemi, 19, he/him ) welcome to reprieve, LANDON KIRBY who is from LEGACIES, SEASON 2. rumor has it they are a PHOENIX, but only they could tell you the truth! when i close my eyes, i think of them and imagine THE CRACKLING OF FLAMES, HOODIES, & TIRED EYES AND HOPEFUL SMILES.
landon is the son of seylah chelon and malivore. his mother was yeeted into the pit by triad, a government organization she worked for, when they realized she knew too much about what they were up to. when she re-emerged at a later date, she was pregnant. an immaculate conception, if you quote alaric. something a little darker, if you read between the lines. he now knows all of this, and remembers this time, and he’s kind of / sort of found ways to deal with it but it still weighs on him sometimes.
he grew up in the foster care system as he was abandoned at a church when he was only days old. though babies are usually adopted out relatively quickly, he never found a home that stuck and bounced through various homes, and foster families, until he and rafael left georgia and came to the salvatore school.
he was a student at the salvatore school prior to reprieve. he’s pulled from season two, meaning that he has discovered his powers. he’s pulled from the end of season two but before, obviously, rafael could stab him with the golden arrow. that’s the one upside to reprieve.
i’m also going to expand his abilities a little bc canon... hasn’t given us much. he can resurrect from death, has fire wings, can levitate, and can also summon fire from his hands and throw fireballs if he focuses. he’s still learning, so it’s not always perfect, but he’s trying.
since arriving in reprieve, approx. 2-3 months ago, he’s been staying at the prestige motel in the echo district. the owner, edward norton, let him stay there rent-free if he agreed to work there. having a) no idea how he got there, and b) no way to get home, he accepted the offer. the place was a recent acquisition, won by norton at a poker game, and the man basically threw a couple black cards and landon and left him to figure out what to do with it on his own. he’s an eccentric billionaire who lives in alpha, so as long as the motel eventually turns a profit ? he doesn’t care what happens to it. though completely out of his depth, landon has enjoyed prettying the place up and throwing himself into the project completely. it was a nice distraction from the horrible reality of being a strange face in a strange place.
personality wise, landon is pretty reserved around people he doesn’t know. he trusts himself and his gut and likes to think he’s a pretty good judge of character. though it isn’t always easy for him to warm up to people. when he does — they’ve got him for life. he’s fiercely loyal and will do whatever it takes to protect the people he loves and cares about. he’s resilient and puts on a brave face, often using sarcasm or humor as defense mechanisms. he does have some abandonment issues, and has suffered abuse in the past in some of his foster situations, but again he somehow always finds a way to pull himself up and get through it so he is pretty good at combating adversity.
( katherine mcnamara, 20, she/her ) welcome to reprieve, AZALEA KELSEY. rumor has it they are a BANSHEE, from REPRIEVE but only they could tell you the truth! they reside in the DELTA district. when i close my eyes, i think of them and imagine SKULL SHATTERING SCREAMS, COMBAT BOOTS, and LAUGHTER SO WARM THAT IT’S WORTHY OF HAPPY ENDINGS.
once again, it’s ya girl essy. and this is my banshee babe, azalea. so i’m going to just give a quick run down of who she is, and her background. i’m a little late getting it done due to currently being ill.
HER STORY.
azalea is a banshee / harbinger of death , the lore of which is mostly centred around this , which some influences from history and irish / scottish folklore which i’m still working out . the main being that it’s not just deaths caused by supernatural that she can feel .
she’s always lived in reprieve, with her family. born after a horrendous time of them trying for a baby, she was the greatest gift possible that they could have ever wanted. and she was always so loved.
there wasn’t always a time where she knew what she was — there was an instance as a child where she’d be in trances, even so young as three . she saw her first dead body at the age of five , having taken off in a park from the swing set with her mother chasing after her in a frantic worry . she’d found a person who’d overdosed and collapsed . and while she didn’t understand , there was nothing quite like the frenzy she was in , a terror of tears that her mother tried her best to console by saying that the man was simply sleeping . but azalea while she accepted it , it didn’t cure the dread that lingered in the pit of her stomach .
being an only child , she had a happy childhood , she was happy —- loved even , a sweet girl with a pure heart . but that all changed when she turned fourteen . she’d been over a friends house , doing homework when she had to leave , and hadn’t looked where she was going crossing the street —- being hit by a car , lead to her being a coma for weeks , on the verge of death and life . it was this that fully triggered her banshee abilities . it was while she was in a coma that her first full premonition came to her , that lead to her startling awake early hours with an almighty scream —- a scream that shook the building , smashed windows —– and quaked her to her core . because that scream sounded the thought , the premonition she didn’t want to accept , because it was the prediction of her mother’s death .
this lead to her ripping out her iv’s , and fleeing the hospital , as fast as her exhausted body could take her —- in pursuit of her mother , in hopes that she could stop what was going to happen . no matter how hard she pushed her failing body , that was still filled with sleep , she was too late . she’d gotten home to a busted door , a littered room with all their family pictures , glass everywhere and her mother’s body . she’d screamed out in agony as she cradled her , tears cascading her cheeks , voice raw from begging her to come back . after that she’d been catatonic for a while , angry at herself for failing her mother , she’d cried all her tears . she was angry at her father for working , for whatever happened to her mother , for not knowing what happened or why she was gone when she’d come back .
she spent the remaining years avoiding getting close to people —- trying to save those who she could , after making a vow with herself to never fail someone again . she couldn’t take back what is passed , but it’s what pushes her to try and protect and stop the inevitable . she’s estranged from her father after years of her own limits holding her back from forgiving him and forgiving herself . there was nothing for her to say now . maybe part of her thought he blamed her , for the accident , for what lead after it .
after research , she finally understood what and who she was —- what she was meant to do —- she was the wailing woman , a banshee , and it was one of the worst things that ever happened to her . it was something she didn’t want and didn’t ask for . azalea wanted only peace . and so she did her best , when screaming or being alerted to death , she tried to save as many as she could —- and she succeeded a lot , some she failed . notches under her belt of all the things she’d done wrong and never let go .
she takes not being able to save everyone extremely hard, because for her it’s like being back there in that very moment when she found her mother. she knows that trying to stop the process of people dying, is tampering with what is the natural order, and yet she doesn’t care. MAYBE she gave up caring about herself a long time ago. in fact because of everything she went through, has made reprieve a prison for her. or maybe who she is, is the true prison. so disrupting life? or the end of it for some, it’s worth it. it’s what keeps her going, damn to those who try and get in her way.
azalea is very hesitant to get close to people , maybe believing it’s easier to be alone after losing her mother and not being able to stop it —- she doesn’t want to be weak and experience that kinda loss again , she’s subsequently protecting herself . she runs on autopilot a lot , has a very sarcastic bitchy nature , but underneath the cold exterior , she’s warm —- very kind , and just wants to be loved . even if she knows it’ll only end one way
( brett dalton, 40, he/him ) welcome to reprieve, VALENTINE MORGENSTERN who is from SHADOWHUNTERS, SEASON 2. rumor has it they are a SHADOWHUNTER, but only they could tell you the truth! when i close my eyes, i think of them and imagine CONVICTIONS STRONGER THAN IRON, BLOODSTAINED HANDS, AND EMPEROR'S NEW CLOTHES BY PANIC AT THE DISCO.

valentine raised his own son, jonathan, and stephen’s son — also jonathan — and compared them. he’d experimented on one with angel blood and the other with demon blood, so he was monitoring their progress and training them to be the perfect soldiers. jace was too weak, despite his efforts to make him strong and sever his emotional ties, and jonathan was too violent. neither was quite right. shortly after jace’s tenth birthday, when he was on the verge of discovery, he faked his own death again and jace was sent to live with the lightwoods. he knew maryse, one of his most loyal followers, would take care of him.
shadowhunters season one & two
18 years after valentine went into hiding, he’s just about ready to make his comeback. one of his circle members spots clary going into a club which is his first lead to jocelyn and the mortal cup. he needs the mortal instruments so that he can make his own army of shadowhunters to overthrow the clave.
long story short, he finds clary, gets the cup, and convinces jace to go with him in order to save his friends. sue him, the kid’s useful — with a little needling, he’s sure he can turn him. in the end clary rescues him and he loses them both but it’s a temporary setback. especially once he tells jace he has demon blood and that clary’s his sister. yes, he lied to manipulate them. he’s not in the running for father of the year.
the clave, as predicted, throw jace into the city of the bones when he returns, they wrongfully assume he’s a traitor, that he’s siding with his father, and valentine uses the distraction to steal the soul sword. by the end of the first half of the season, he manipulates jace into activating the soul sword and kills a room filled with downworlders. the uprising finally comes to fruition. he leaves with the soul sword but gets stopped by clary who nullifies it.
where is he now?
the portal shows up moments later. he steps through with the nullified sword and the cup, one mortal instrument short of the set.
he’s not too concerned with the fact that he’s in the future. he has the mortal instruments, he’s working on creating more shadowhunters — though, admittedly, they’re not turning out so hot these days — and amassing his army for when the time comes. clave or no clave in this new world, he knows the list of his enemies is a mile long. once he finds out that his children are here — and that some of them might not know what he’s done yet — will give him the perfect opportunity to turn them towards his favor.
( adrianne palicki, 20, she/her ) welcome to reprieve, JESSICA MOORE who is from SUPERNATURAL, PILOT. rumor has it they are a HUMAN, but only they could tell you the truth! when i close my eyes, i think of them and imagine THE SMELL OF COOKIES BAKING, CHERRY BLOSSOM PETALS FALLING IN THE PARK, SELF-CENSORED SWEAR WORDS, AND NOSTALGIC NINETIES CARTOONS.
While Jessica is a canon character, we actually know very little about her, even canonically. What we do know from the show can be found here
Jessica was born in Oak Ridge, TN, and lived there up until moving to Palo Alto to go to Stanford – but that’s a time period for later.
Growing up everything was, quite frankly, normal. Her middle class family owned their own home, with a white picket fence around the yard and a dog to play with. They were the kind of family that poses for stock photos that come in the picture frames that you buy at the store, all blonde-haired, blue-eyed with a son and daughter. Nothing bad happened growing up, aside from the typical arguing between a sister and her older brother, and even then it was all fairly tame. Life was pretty damn average, and there was nothing wrong with that.
Joshua went to college first, heading off to Brown, and three years later Jessica followed suit, though rather than heading for New York City, she’d set her own sights on California. Truthfully she wasn’t even totally sure when she left just what she would wind up studying, only sure that whatever she did in life she wanted to be helping people. Maybe it would be law, or medicine, or some kind of humanitarian work, but that end goal was the same in any of those fields - she just wanted to help.
One thing she hadn’t counted on in California? Brady introducing her to Sam Winchester. She fell hard, and she fell fast, and there was no going back. She admired him, and soon she was no longer thinking about things in terms of her own future, but their future. She was more than happy to bring him home to meet her family - aunts, uncles, cousins… Mom, Dad, Josh… It all just felt so right. Everything in her life was falling into place, and she was really beginning to see it all play out in front of her quite clearly. Their own house in a small town somewhere, with their own children and their dog all surrounded by that same white picket fence she’d grown up in herself…
And then Dean had shown up in the middle of the night, and there was another side to him that she’d never really anticipated, and with an interview only a couple of days away he was packing a bag and hopping into his brother’s car to take off looking for their father. Sure it raised questions, but more than anything it raised concern. These weren’t the kind of things she counted on coming from him, but he promised he would be back in time for the interview, and he’d never broken a promise to her before.
But then one minute she was pulling a batch of cookies out of the oven and quickly writing out a handwritten note (in case she was already asleep when he got back) and the next thing she knew she was somewhere else entirely, with absolutely no recollection of how she’d gotten there, or what she was there for.
