oh yeah that awful riwic creator, truly the essence of evil. how could they make splatoon themed riwics for funsies and have the audacity to give them away for free even when people around them did the same thing except they profited and no one cared. lets not forget about the callie and marie pacas that were sold for money and didnt get shit for it. (not saying to attack the paca creator, there is nothing wrong with the designs and there was nothing wrong with the riwics)

Now that rRamune has proven how much of a troll they are, I'll be avoiding all of their stuff like the plague. I finally looked up their ripoffs, and I'm not sure how one could possibly argue in their favor. There's nothing creative or "transformative" about them. I wouldn't say they were free either, seeing as a DTA event requires a bit of time and effort to enter. Thanks for saving me a headache, I guess?

I love how rRamune edited the description on those copy pasted splatoon adopts saying "transformative fair use" as if that's an excuse..Just admit that you just copied characters and put them on a base already than cry "transformative fair use" uwu"

Oops. Totally meant "derivative work" not "distributive work." The gist of everything is that you should be giving more than you take (in this case, adding something to the original work instead of just using it for your own profit). Think about how you, personally, would feel if someone else did the same thing to you. Gotta Golden Rule it up in here, y'all.

@Rrramune I think the problem here is that you seem to mistake copying with being inspired. People will generally be alright with inspired adopts (and the selling of) when there's creativity applied and the inspo doesn't go past a certain limit. When what you're doing is directly slapping a copyrighted character on a species design - like the Splatoon riwics - whether or not you're selling 'em or gifting 'em won't matter because it's still copying almost 100%, no creativity applied.

well then i guess we need to stop plant ponies and any pokemon adoptables. but not really because as the other anon pointed out, those things, and my riwics, fall under transformative fair use.

Hey rrramune are you aware that you're basically saying "I am allowed to copy characters because companies are already rich11!" ? You're sounding like an offbrander now. Just because people may seem to already have money doesn't mean it's right to steal near EXACT copies characters and resell them?? This goes for the people who run big pokemon arpgs

part 2: you also didnt answer my question of, is it illegal to give fanart away for free. by the logic of selling fanart being illegal, and my riwics being illegal even though they were free, is it illegal to give fanart away for free?
