some details from around Royd's lab/workspace. obligatory smart guy visual shorthand of the rubik's cube (also i can see him being an 80s baby). a mini surfboard and a lei <3. also an even mini-er surfboard that says "surfboard" lol. dumbbell. icosahedron(?) model. whiteboards with beyond me math stuff and his daily workout schedule (does he live at SDN or something?? or is he just in his lab so much he also works out there). bodybuilder poster. and of course all the notes and the tech stuff throughout. everything you need to know about what this guy is about.

i feel like this image captures his genius himbo energy. bc he's obviously hella smart and can do all those calculations n w/e (the fact that he was able to recreate something that was anything close to resembling the astral pulse, by himself, with what? w/e materials that filter thru that branch of SDN? all while also rebuilding the suit itself. i feel like if he had more time and resources, he could've done it), but then there's that messed up tic-tac-toe game up in the corner lol

so was royd ever actually a villain villain? bc they say the phoenix program is for rehabbing supervillains to become heroes. as far as we know, all he did was *attempt* to shoplift from radioshack. he wasn't even successful lol. unless "villain" is just synonymous with "criminal" in that world so it doesn't really matter how bad the crime was, or whether or not the intent was to be villainous, having any kind of record is enough to qualify.

i'm no writer, but now i'm imagining an au where royd was an actual villain. maybe he turns to villainy out of necessity (like i assume the reason why he felt the need to steal in the first place - probably was broke having just moved away from home). he becomes the other local villains go-to for custom gear builds and repairs bc he finds it to be more lucrative than any legal job he could get at the time. and he needs the money, not only to just live and fund his tinkering, but maybe to send home to support family too.

this could then turn into a timeline where he never gets the chance to enter the phoenix program while he's still a young adult and becomes recruited by shroud. i feel like shroud would've exploited the hell out of royd's skills and power.
