PHORIA - RROTOR
PHORIA : RROTOR
Phoria’s debut album Volition was a stupendous 2016 release, once that was criminally overlooked by many on this side of the pond. Now that the English progressive rock and art rock outfit has returned with fresh new music, I highly recommend people dive into their profoundly shifting, beautifully ruminative new songs and take the time to listen back on Volition, too. Sinking into When Everything Was Mine is like slowly dropping into a bottomless ocean. Atmospheric synths, James Blake-like dusky arrangements, and sprawling sonics surround us on the somber beauty. When Everything Was Mine is a gorgeous elegy, refined yet heady, mesmeric and moving. It’s a brilliant return for a brilliant band, whom I was lucky enough to catch at SXSW last year. Accompanying the song is a second new track named RROTOR, a breathtaking hymnal awash in regal horns and majestic drums which you can stream below. Phoria’s music is of the life-changing type. It reminds us how small we are as it defies space and time, yet somehow familiarizes itself with the inner workings of our hearts all at the same time. Phoria plans to release a sophomore album in 2019.
