Motive 01 ↣ Thin Air | Open
The buzz of her mobile in her pocket, at first, sent a sensation of hope through her as she believed for a moment that salvation was at hand for her and her wayward class of fifteen, but disappointment would have it that it was only the annoying stuffed animal once again. Ridiculous. With reluctant, but obedient haste, Misaki made her way back towards the Mellow Moon Hotel where she had found herself from the beginning. The rest of her class had also gathered there by the time she arrived.
Standing off to the side of the lobby, Misaki absently listened to the shrill voice of Monomi dribble on about friendship and bonding. She was just about ready to leave on her own when a sudden change in tone and atmosphere filled the lobby. A second talking stuffed animal, this time, a bear, made its appearance, sending the pink rabbit into the air with an impressive uppercut to the face. When the surprise of the other creature subsided, Misaki felt something she hadn’t felt in a long time creep up the back of her kimono.
Dread. An impending sense of dread filled her body.
The bear who now spoke in Monomi’s face, who called himself Monobear, began to speak - and unlike the messages of friendship and peace that Monomi had been preaching, Monobear was far, far different. It was chilling - the glint in his reflective eye, his tone of voice, even his echoing laugh - something about the bear made Misaki’s hair stand on end. Under most circumstances, she wouldn’t believe such far-fetched claims, but something about the bear’s tone made her feel a sense of truth in his words. Something inside her told Misaki that this bear, was not lying. What the bear said next only reinforced the feeling growing in the pit of Misaki’s stomach.
“The only way any of you are going to get out is by killing one of your classmates!”
“So this was the reason all along, wasn’t it.” she asked rhetorically.
Suddenly, everything that Misaki had built in the last few hours came crashing down on her shoulders, figuratively weighing the archer down with crushing disappointment. How could she have been so foolish? To think that she believed that there was nothing sinister festering beneath the surface of this situation, but Misaki did not think that the circumstances would be this devious. Misaki clenched her fists and grit her teeth behind her pursed lips, staring dangerously at the bear taking the seat of Monomi at the front desk.
Questions came popping through her mind like fireworks. What did Monobear mean when he said the world was in chaos? It was not possible. It could not be possible. She held herself from storming towards the bear and ringing his plush neck with her bare hands. So the bear was threatening them with death if they themselves did not initiate first blood. Disgusting. All these thoughts has filled her mind as her body instinctively carried her out of the thick air of the Hotel and instead brought her towards the cafe.
Fists clenched tightly and resting on the counter, Misaki silently punished herself for allowing herself to become so naively comfortable. How could she be such a fool! Suddenly the sharp eyes of the kyudoka shot towards the doorway of the cafe as the bell chimed, her gaze like daggers firing at lighting speeds. Company was the last thing she desired. Misaki was more controlled and disciplined than anyone here - but the threat of death did not rest in her abilities to control herself, but on the abilities of her company, and she held little confidence in them.
“I have no business with you.” she said coldly. “What do you require?”
