Fresh air filtered itself through every strand of hair as the young adult followed the trail, unbeknownst to where it may be leading. Somehow having found herself in Bluebell village, not too far east of the city of Altelia, Katie hummed to herself pleasantly as she took in her surroundings. The sights, the smells, the feeling of wind on her bare skin; each feeling filling her lonely heart with a feeling of contentedness and belonging. The reason for such travels was unknown. Sometimes, it felt like escaping the monotony of everyday life was the only way she could really escape from herself sometimes. So, despite being so set in stone and disliking change, eyes became set on Bluebell, almost at random. There was no fun in change if she was to go somewhere familiar, no?
Her mind was concentrated on the sound of foot against concrete, foot against stone. All that could be heard in ear was the faint caress of the wind, the rustle of the trees, and the smell of nature as she breathed it all in. The world in itself almost sounded like music. A beautiful violin playing amongst the natural hum of trees and birds alike. The sound of cicadas chirping in the hot summer’s air. Her arms stretched towards the sky as she looked up, momentarily feeling smaller than she had ever felt in relation to the world around her. A grain of sand almost. Despite the daunting nature of the feeling, Katie felt happiness fill her heart.
Yet, with every step it as if the music assumed to be from nature became louder. Every point her mind became close to distinguishing the sound as a real instrument, the sound would fade into the wind without a trace. The steps that had been frequent and in time soon came to a halt as Katie’s mind couldn’t help but want to listen out for the sound again. Surely enough, with enough patience and a keen musical ear, the small girl could hear a sound that was more or less very familiar. A sound that pulled at her heartstrings; a sound that forced her body to move on its own towards it, as if she were being pulled by an invisible thread. As if it were fate that she heard the most beautiful calling of a violin.
The pace her body had made was quickening, her footsteps began to crescendo with the sound of the violin. It wasn’t long before she was brought before a beautiful small lake. Despite the summertime heat, there were flowers bloomed in the most radiant array of colour. The trees still blew with a gentle beauty that astounded Katie the longer she looked above. Amongst the scene stood a man of around six foot tall, his soul seemingly lost in the sound of his music. The most captivating sound of a violin that called to a memory of a certain person in her life from long ago.
Hands lent on a tree in front, the small strawberry blonde peered out from behind the tree’s trunk at the man who played without a care in the world. Her world, despite the moving of breeze and leaves around her, was stood still. Her heart was captivated, for everything that existed around that human being in front of her momentarily became almost insignificant in comparison to the beauty of sound that emitted from the violin. Without even noticing, she had made herself very well open to vision as she had stepped out from behind the tree; her body had acted on its own. It took a few moments before realisation kicked in, but once it did, Katie’s arms flailed in the air as she made eye contact with the man in front of her.
There was no doubt that her reaction had caused the individual to stop playing. “Ah! I... I uh...” she began exasperatedly. One of the very few times she lost her ability to formulate a full sentence happened to be when she was embarrassed, and well, this was one of those times well and truly. Why couldn’t she just tell the man that his violin skills were absolutely amazing and just move on with her day? Now she was most likely just bothering the poor guy who probably just wanted to play his violin in peace.
“Your playing... It was just so beautiful that I was drawn to it without even knowing... I swear I’m not a stalker mister!” were the only words she managed to say before letting out a sigh of embarrassment. “Your music... You’re very talented sir! I-If I’m disturbing you... I can be on my way!”
