Iris sighed and fell back on the couch.
“I feel like such an idiot.” She paused, tears welling up again. “It’s just like…like…”
“No,” Stacy ordered. “Don’t say it. Don’t you say it. This is not just like Eddie.”
“Isn’t it?” she sniffled.
“Eddie was a liar, and he cheated, and he got himself put in jail for aiding and abetting drug dealers on the south side of town.”
Iris sighed dramatically. “Both broke my heart though,” she muttered.
“Yeah, I know.” Stacy came to sit beside her and held her tight.
“How am I going to get past this, Stace?” she asked, numb.
“By reminding yourself that you only saw the guy a couple times, so at best it was a crush. You weren’t in love with him, Iris. You weren’t even dating. That means he’ll be ten times easier to get over than Eddie was.”
“I don’t know…” she considered. “I felt such a connection to him, way more than I ever felt with Eddie.”
“It’s been a while since you got laid,” Stacy said, to which Iris scoffed, even though it was the truth. “Sexual attraction plus lack of activity can be a very explosive combination.”
