RTTE Thoughts
Ok, I think I pinpointed exactly what bothers me about RTTE overall.
It’s not the animation, it’s not the story lines, it’s not the slow/non-existent burn of Hiccstrid... it’s the dumbing down of the characters and dialogue.
The movies were emotionally poignant and funny, but still easy for children to understand and appealing to the older audience. Why is the show dumbed down to the point that they give the dragons vocal commands (e.g: “Toothless, plasma blast” or “Stormfly, spine shot!”
The movies didn’t have any of that but kids still understand that the dragons know and comprehend how and where to be useful without detailed vocal commands from the riders. I am all for talking to the dragons (”Thanks, bud”, “C’mon, Toothless, gimme all you got!”) but they treat them like they are stupid.
On top of that, they treat each other like they are stupid. A sarcastic comment here or there, sure! They’re snarky teenagers with close friendships, it happens... but constant mocking each other bordering on flat out dislike at times? Frustrating.
Anyone else have thoughts on this?

you can tell that the rtte team just thought spitelout and Snotlout’s dynamic was completely fine and whatever considering how other characters often react to it. Makes me concerned about the writers.
gotta say, the longest day ep is really loosing me at it’s premise. No nighttime for two weeks? Sure that happens in parts of the world. No one sleeps for two weeks? So people would die. Your brain stops working. You can’t keep up physical activity after a few days, certainly not a week. And this is a pre-caffeine society. Do they know they could just put up blackout curtains? They don’t have to stay awake the whole time. Also what do you mean the twins are immune to sleep deprivation??? Of course they are. Sigh.
