I’m probably going to offend someone somehow, which is not my intention as this is merely observation. But after watching most of the Digital Circus episodes, I came to the realization that the setting doesn’t matter. The setting has played absolutely zero role in the story. All the characters could have been picked up and transplanted to an entirely different setting and all the stories would have played out exactly the same.

You could have gotten the Amazing Digital Cyber Punk neighborhood, or Star Fleet Cabin, High School dormitory , Fire Department, or Planet Fitness Gym.

Or my favorite, The Amazing Digital Horse Girl Ranch.

The characters never interact with the setting in any meaningful way. The only time they do interact with the setting is on adventures from Caine, that are not even in the circus. The fact that they are in a circus means nothing. They never do anything circus related. And the circus itself never plays a role in any episode or plot. They could have all been transplanted exactly as they are into any other setting and you wouldn’t have to change anything about the story.

The first time the setting actually played a meaningful role in an episode was a beach episode, and they didn’t even interact with the circus. They interacted with a lake.

Just thought that was interesting.

I’m not sure I can think of many other properties where you could just swap out the whole setting, and not change anything else, and the whole story stays the same. You definitely couldn’t put the LOTR characters in a Horse Ranch and the story remain the same. Or the Hazbin characters into a Horse Ranch, or the YGO cast into a circus (even though Kaiba is already a clown), or the Miraculous cast into a star fleet cabin. Even taking another story that takes place in a digital world; You couldn’t transplant the story and characters of Digimon to a Fire Department without it changing the entire story. The exploration and interaction of the digital world plays an integral part of the plot of the show, despite it being a totally virtual setting. You would need to seriously rewrite every episode to make the story work in a new setting despite it all being virtual world.
