Torrent Bay, Tasman, New Zealand When the island of New Zealand was formed, during the formation of the continents, because NZ got isolated from every other place, it developed its own unique ecosystem. NZ didn’t get any predators. There are no snakes in NZ. In the absence of predators, there was no need for self-defence. Which is why the native birds of NZ are flightless birds, the most characteristic being their namesake - the kiwi. “If it can fly, it’s not from here”, is a famous saying here. As the Europeans followed Cook and Tasman, they brought with them not just the “propah” English language, but also the flora and fauna. They only way now of maintaining the natural ecosystem of NZ is by keeping a strict track of what’s grown how much. (This is also one of the reasons for the strict biosecurity laws on NZ). Learning about this fascinating aspect of Nz, our boat moved deeper into the NP, one bay at a time. At the beach of every bay, there was a campsite. You could book a cabin/ campsite for yourself on the DOC website before getting here (DOC is the Department of Conservation which is in charge of the camping and staying arrangements in the NPs of NZ). The most exciting way of seeing the Abel Tasman National Park is on foot. It is one of the 9 Great Walks identified by the Tourism department of NZ. It takes 4-5 days to walk through the entire NP, and for every night halt a camping site is available. The exact arrangements and facilities available are clearly mentioned on the DOC website. If it suits your needs, you reserve your places in advance. So, at the end of the day, you are assured of a safe place to stay in the middle of the forest. #RTWSC #NZSC #TorrentBay #torrent #bay #Tasman #abletasman #NewZealand #purenz #southisland #wanderlust #landscape #travelblog #travelblogger #nzmustdo #newzealandfinds #destinationnz #newzealandguide #southisland #purenewzealand #ExtraordinaryExplorer #destinationnz #newzealandguide #nzmustdo #kiwi #newzealandvacations #newzealandfinds #newzealandpics #discover_newzealand (at Torrent Bay)
