Piha beach, Auckland, New Zealand One evening we went for an outing to the Piha beach on the west coast, around an hour’s drive from Auckland. It was starting to get cold in Auckland, so there weren’t too many people on the beach. Just a few kite surfers retiring for a day. It was just us on the long black windy beach. Far inside in the fading evening light, we could see a lion’s face carved out on a mountain cliff coming down into the water. If I'm being honest, I am not the greatest planner. So when we got to the spot in the road where Google told me to go and some other folks told us that the trail to the falls was private property, we set out on an unexpected adventure, skirting the river in search of Spirit Falls. Blending in with my surroundings 🌵 One of the most fascinating things about New Zealand is the vastly varied climate types all packed into one tiny island.
