Rubio: GOP party can't unite behind Trump as the nominee
Florida | Marco Rubio for President
But I am running for President and I would say to the people who support Donald Trump, ‘look, I understand people are angry and frustrated about the direction of our country, the changes in our culture about what Barack Obama has done–I understand that, I really do. Anger can motivate you, but it shouldn’t define us. Anger’s not a plan. Anger’s not going to solve our problems. Anger’s not going to repeal and replace Obamacare. Anger’s not going to rebuild our military. Anger’s not going to cut taxes and rollback regulations. Anger’s not going to make America a better place to create better paying jobs for millions of Americans who are struggling. And Anger isn’t going to protect the Constitution. We need real ideas to do that.’ My problem with his candidacy is he refuses to answer significant, serious policy questions. These voters deserve to know that. I want to have a policy debate, but he refuses to engage in ideas, and I think that’s dangerous because if you elect someone who doesn’t tell you what they are going to do and how they are going to do it, how do you hold them accountable? And how do you know what you are voting for?

Rubio: Reality TV has infected politics
I am a firm believer in the Golden Rule–Treat others the way you want to be treated.
This is why I try to treat others with respect and try to be helpful and kind. But when someone treats me like the scum beneath their toes, then I will not hesitate to treat them the same.
I do not believe this is betraying your values, but rather giving someone a taste of their own medicine. It hurts when people call you names for no reason, or when they gossip things behind your back. But with people like that, there is no reasoning or olive branch that will make them change their ways. The only thing to do is to start dishing back what they are serving.
I believe Marco Rubio is the exact same way. This past week I have seen many people say, “oh I have lost faith with him, he sunk to Trump’s level.” It isn’t sinking to his level when you are shoveling his shit back at him. This is what getting a taste of your own medicine feels like and taste like. I am sick of Trump attacking Rubio, of calling him a robot or Little Marco. Rubio has been nothing but courteous since the beginning of this race, and yet Trump has not once provided Rubio that same courtesy. So yes, it was time Rubio to start participating in this mud fight.
If someone is attacking you with a knife or pointing a gun at you, you say it is justified to fight back. The violence is acceptable. Why is it not acceptable to start saying insults back when all you have received thus far is insults?
