Lisa is one of my favorite pixelated-style games. And no, I don’t mean LISA: The Painful RPG (though that game is excellent as well, in its own morbid way). No, I’m talking about lisa, a much-lesser-known isometric herding game on Itch. I honestly don’t remember where I found this game, I just remember downloading it and putting it in my library some time ago. Mysterious origins aside, this game is an absolute pleasure. You play as a man and his sheepdog (you can control theme separately or have the dog follow the man), herding sheep and working the farm. Birds chirp and trees sway in the breeze as you amble about the fields and meadows completing your adorable little chores. There are no words, there’s no intense challenge, really, but this game’s cheery feel and lively, bouncy pixelated graphics make completing this game’s ‘chores’ anything but. This games is relaxing and engrossing, taking me into its pleasant atmosphere more than many other, more technically advanced, games, and does so with no fancy dialogue, or cutscenes, or narrative. There are just simple tutorials skillfully blended into the game world that familiarize you with the controls, and then you’re off. Besides the man’s grunt or dog’s bark, there is no talking. And that’s fine. This little joy is 100% perfect as it is. I honestly can’t think of much I’d add that could make it any better.
